Chapter 99
Zachary glanced at the screen, his expression softening as he answered the call. “Yeah, Nana, I’m with her right now. We’re having dinner.”
Nana’s voice was filled with concern. “I tried calling her earlier. You know how worried I get when I can’t reach her. Is everything okay?”
Serenity, who had been quietly sipping her drink, looked up at Zachary with a small smile. “I turned off my phone to avoid distractions while we’re eating. Everything’s fine, Nana.”
Zachary relayed Serenity’s words, and Nana seemed to relax, though there was a hint of lingering worry in her tone. “Well, I’m just glad to hear you’re both okay. I’m still praying for you both to be safe.”
After a few more exchanged words, Zachary ended the call and returned his attention to Serenity. “Nana’s always so caring. She’s worried about you, too.”
Serenity smiled gently, touched by the older woman’s affection. “I appreciate it. It’s nice knowing someone cares so much.”
Zachary nodded, his eyes warm as they met hers. “Of course. You mean a lot to both of us.” He paused, then continued, “Now, let’s focus on enjoying tonight. You deserve it.”
They sat in comfortable silence for a moment, savoring the ambiance of the restaurant. Serenity felt a sense of peace that had eluded her for so long. Despite everything happening with her grandparents and the drama swirling around, she felt grounded with Zachary by her side. He had a way of calming her, making everything seem a little more manageable.
The dinner passed smoothly, and after the meal, Zachary drove the couple to Liberty’s place. Serenity wasn’t sure what to expect, but she felt more prepared to face whatever came next with Zachary at her side.
