Chapter 22
Serenity knew that senior professionals like Zachary probably had their fair share of special privileges. She pulled out her debit card and handed it to him, urging, “Make sure you bargain with the florist and get the price down to half.”
Zachary took the card but immediately pushed it back into her hands. “I’ve got money.”
Serenity raised an eyebrow, curious but chose not to press the matter any further.
With a reminder to Zachary to get the best deal, she grabbed her keys and rushed out, heading to her sister’s place.
What Serenity didn’t know was that Zachary waited until she was out of sight before filming a quick video of the balcony. He sent it off to Henry, the head gardener at the York estate.
It wasn’t long before Henry returned his call.
“Sir?”
“You saw the video, Henry. How many pots of flowers do you think I’d need to turn the balcony into a mini garden? Pick a few from the cheaper ones in your greenhouse. I want fast-growing varieties with large, intricate petals. Deliver them to unit 808 on the eighth floor of Block B at Brynfield.”
Zachary had noticed Serenity’s preference for large, detailed flowers during their trip to the florist. She wasn’t interested in generic petals.
“I also need a breakdown of the charges,” he added.
“Understood, sir.”
“Make sure they’re delivered by this evening.”
“Of course, sir.”
For Zachary, his instructions were law.
“Just have them moved upstairs to the balcony. I’ll leave the rest to Serenity. She might not like it if I take over her vision.”
Henry acknowledged politely before the call ended.
Meanwhile, Serenity, unaware of Zachary’s plan, was picking up takeout breakfast for her sister and nephew, just like the day before. Feeling generous, she also bought Sonny a children’s battery-powered bike.
“Ant Swer!” Sonny’s sweet voice greeted her the moment she walked in.
“Sonny, why are you up so early today? Come see what I got you!” Serenity smiled as she set down the food.
“Bwike!” Sonny toddled over to the bike, his limited vocabulary giving way to his excitement as he circled it.
Liberty emerged from the bathroom, having just tossed their clothes into the washing machine, though she’d hand-washed Sonny’s clothes.
“Seren, you spent money on something unnecessary again,” Liberty said, shaking her head playfully.
“I bought my nephew a toy. That’s not unnecessary,” Serenity replied with a grin, setting the takeout aside. She picked Sonny up and placed him on the bike, guiding him as he began to figure out how to ride it.
Sonny, a quick learner, was soon riding the bike around the living room with joy.
“Liberty, I brought breakfast for you and Sonny,” Serenity said as she placed the bags on the counter.
“I set an alarm last night so I could get up early and make breakfast today. Your brother-in-law had a big meal before heading off to work,” Liberty replied, her face lighting up with happiness as she watched Sonny having fun.
“You don’t need to bring us breakfast every time you visit. You’re married now, and you have your own family. I don’t want you spending all your money on us,” Liberty added, not wanting Serenity to feel like her life should revolve around her sister.
