Chapter 69
the dealership in confusion. She had no idea why Zachary had brought her here, and the only thing she could think of was that he had some sort of business to attend to. She glanced at him, but he was as inscrutable as ever, his face betraying no emotion.
“Zachary, why are we here?” Serenity asked, trying to make sense of the situation. She wasn’t sure if she should be excited or worried about what was about to happen.
Zachary didn’t immediately answer. Instead, he walked towards a sleek black car that was parked on the lot. “Pick one,” he said, his tone casual but authoritative, like he had been planning this for a while.
Serenity’s mind raced. “What do you mean, pick one?” she asked, feeling a little bit of panic creeping into her voice.
Zachary didn’t look back at her, instead inspecting the car with a casual air. “Pick a car. Your old one’s been giving you trouble, hasn’t it? It’s time to get a new one.”
Serenity stood there, frozen for a moment. Her old car was indeed falling apart, but she hadn’t expected Zachary to go this far, especially after everything that had happened between them. “I… I can’t just accept a car from you,” she stammered, still unsure if this was some kind of elaborate gesture or a test.
Zachary finally turned to face her, his expression softer than usual. “It’s not about me giving you a car, Serenity. It’s about you having something that works for you. If you’re going to be busy running this shop and handling your life, you need something reliable. This isn’t a gift. It’s a necessity.”
Serenity still hesitated. The idea of accepting such a generous gesture made her uncomfortable, but Zachary’s insistence left her with little choice. She looked at the car he was standing beside, a sleek, modern vehicle that was clearly top of the line.
“Choose,” Zachary repeated, his voice gentle but firm.
After a moment of internal conflict, Serenity took a deep breath. Maybe it was time to stop overthinking everything and just accept help when it was offered. She stepped forward, walking toward a nearby car that caught her eye, a little unsure but grateful for the gesture.
As she walked around the car, Zachary watched her silently, though there was something in his eyes that hinted at his approval. “Good choice,” he said quietly, as Serenity finally allowed herself to smile.
“Thank you… I guess,” she replied, still not entirely comfortable with the idea, but willing to trust him for once.
