Chapter 87
The phone in the office rang, and Zachary picked it up, putting the call on loudspeaker. “Mr. York, Ms. Stone is here again.” The secretary’s voice sounded hesitant. Zachary’s face darkened as he replied, “Ignore her.” The secretary continued, “Ms. Stone has ordered a truckload of flowers arranged into a heart shape and delivered to the entrance of our building. Apparently, the heart represents her love for you.” Josh’s eyes gleamed with gossip, and Zachary shot him a look before responding, “What’s the security for? Why are they letting trash sit at our doorstep?” He hung up the phone, making his disapproval clear. The secretary, understanding his message, quickly ended the call.
Josh chuckled. “Elisa is a great girl. She’s upfront about her feelings. I mean, there must be plenty of women who are interested in you, but only Elisa has the guts to profess her love like this.” Zachary glanced at Josh and said sarcastically, “Well, if you think she’s so great, go for her. Get her attention so I can have some peace.” Josh was momentarily speechless. “She’s not my type,” he said quickly, offering his usual excuse about waiting for sparks and butterflies before falling for anyone.
Zachary’s response was curt. “What does it have to do with you?” Josh blinked, taken aback by the sudden coldness in Zachary’s tone. Zachary then ordered, “Finish your food and get out. If you have nothing to do…” Josh, realizing that further questioning would result in more work, quickly finished his breakfast and scrambled to get out of the office. “I’m busy. I have a lot of work to do. I’ll get right on it now,” he said, eager to avoid further confrontation.
Once outside the office, Josh muttered to himself, “I wasn’t being nosy. I was just concerned. That’s all.” His attempt at being considerate had almost led to extra work, but he wasn’t giving up on the juicy gossip. He instructed his secretary to take photos of Elisa’s elaborate floral display so he could tease Zachary about it later. He also secretly admired Elisa’s boldness and thought maybe he could learn something from her when he met the right person.
Elisa’s grand gesture—her sea of red roses arranged into a heart shape—had just been set up when the security received orders to destroy it. However, when they arrived at the scene, they found themselves unable to carry out the order. Elisa stood in front of the floral arrangement, holding a megaphone, and boldly proclaimed, “Zachary, I like you!” Her voice echoed up to the sixty-eight-story building, and the employees at York Corporation watched in disbelief.
A security guard approached, trying to get Elisa to leave. “Ms. Stone, please leave now,” he requested. But Elisa paid him no mind, continuing to shout her love for Zachary. As she made her declaration, the crowd of onlookers grew, with people stopping to take photos and videos. The media soon caught wind of the spectacle, but by the time they arrived, the flowers had been destroyed and removed. Despite this, Elisa remained, as the security guards were too intimidated to force her to leave.
