Chapter 44
Grandma May shook her head, her eyes twinkling with mischief. “No, no, Callum. This is about more than just desserts. I need to make sure Zachary gets out of that cold, detached shell of his. He’s been hiding behind that business persona for too long. It’s time he did something for family… like a little errand for his old grandma.”
Callum snorted, shaking his head in amusement. “You’re relentless, Nana. You really know how to push his buttons.”
“I’ve been doing it for years, dear. A little persistence never hurt anyone,” Grandma May replied, leaning back in her seat, satisfied with the plan.
As they drove away, Callum couldn’t help but wonder how Zachary would handle his grandmother’s latest scheme. The man was tough, but even he would be hard-pressed to escape Grandma May’s influence for long.
Meanwhile, back at the shop, Serenity finished cleaning up the last of her work and prepared to head out for the night. The day had been filled with unexpected moments, but now it was time to focus on her best friend’s blind date. While she wasn’t thrilled about the idea of spending her evening at a coffee shop playing chaperone, she knew Jasmine needed her support.
She quickly grabbed her coat and headed out, but as she passed the door, she paused and glanced back toward the shop, a small smile playing on her lips. Even though her life seemed to be taking unexpected turns, she felt a sense of peace in the quiet routine of her work. She wasn’t sure what would happen next, but for the first time in a while, she was curious to see where life might take her.
