Chapter 43
if I wanted to, I wouldn’t fit in with your crowd of young folks. I’m just here to make sure you two don’t get into any trouble,” Grandma May teased with a wink.
Jasmine rolled her eyes, adjusting her jacket. “I’m serious about this date, Nana! I’ve heard a lot about this guy. If he’s really from Stone Group, maybe he’s someone worth getting to know.”
Grandma May chuckled softly. “You’ll know soon enough, dear. Just remember to be yourself. Don’t try too hard.”
Serenity, overhearing their conversation while finishing her work, gave a small smile. “Jas, just don’t expect too much, okay? Everyone puts on a show at first, but it’s how they act when things get real that counts.”
Jasmine nodded. “That’s what I’m hoping for, too. I want to know the real guy behind all the titles and business cards.”
With that, Jasmine headed out, leaving Serenity and Grandma May to their quiet moment. Serenity finished packing up the last of her orders and then turned to her grandmother-in-law. “Thanks for coming by, Nana. I’m really glad we got to talk.”
“Of course, Seren,” Grandma May replied with a soft smile. “Take care tonight. You know where to find me if you need to talk later.”
As the evening continued, Serenity reflected on the day. Jasmine’s blind date, the unexpected advice from Grandma May, and even the small moments of warmth she’d shared with Zachary’s grandmother all seemed to nudge her towards thinking about the future in a different way. Maybe things wouldn’t always go as planned, but sometimes, they might turn out just right, even if she wasn’t looking for them.
With a deep breath, Serenity grabbed her coat and headed out, ready to support her best friend while also staying open to whatever life might have in store.
