Chapter 91 Ring, ring, ring…
Serenity’s phone rang, and when she checked, it was Liberty calling. She quickly picked up. “Seren, did you see the news on Twitter? They’re too much!” Liberty’s voice was full of anger. As the older sister, Liberty had clearer memories of their childhood and the events that followed their parents’ accident. She had even kept a diary documenting every cruel action from their grandparents and uncles. She still had that diary to this day. It was a shock to Liberty that these relatives, who had always been heartless, would now turn the tables and blame the sisters. “It’s not like they turned bad overnight. They’ve always been evil.”
“I’ll go online now to explain our side of the story,” Liberty said, her anger rising.
Before Liberty could hang up, Serenity stopped her. “No need to jump to our defense right now. Let the story sit for a while before we respond. Then, it’s our turn to show the whole world who they are.”
Liberty’s curiosity grew. “What do you plan to do, Seren? You have my full support.” Then, she remembered something important. “I used to keep a diary back then. I still have it. What if we post it online?”
Surprised that Liberty had kept a diary, Serenity replied, “Send it to me, Liberty. I’ll compile the proof we need to fight back. I’ll post a long tweet along with the evidence and make them regret putting us in this spot.”
Serenity wasn’t going to let her relatives’ online attack and cyberbullying intimidate her. She would fight back and expose them for what they were. “Alright,” Liberty agreed.
“But don’t get involved, Liberty. I’ll handle it,” Serenity insisted. “You have Sonny to protect. These trolls can be ruthless and might even go after you and your son. Don’t go online in the next few days. Turn off your phone or change your number. We can stay in touch with your new contact number.”
Liberty hesitated. “This involves both of us. How can I let you face it alone?”
“I know you’re not scared, but Sonny is still young. God knows what these people might do. Cyberbullying can escalate to family harassment.” Serenity’s concern for her nephew was evident. She didn’t want him dragged into the mess.
“Don’t worry, Liberty. I’ll sort it out. Remove your SIM card and contact me when you get a new number,” Serenity urged.
Liberty reluctantly agreed. “Okay. I’ll head to your shop right now.”
Though Liberty agreed to get a new SIM card, she was still determined not to stay out of the matter. After hanging up, Liberty’s phone rang again, this time from her husband, Hank. His voice was sharp. “Is the article online tweeted by your relatives? I told you to cut ties with them. I don’t care what happens to you, but don’t get me and Sonny involved.”
Hank had recently climbed to a managerial position, and his income had greatly improved. He feared that if his in-laws found out about his success, they’d try to exploit him financially.
