Chapter_260
Aurora walked toward the door, her movements graceful as she slipped back into her high heels. She didn’t even glance at the women writhing in pain on the floor, their discomfort completely ignored. With an air of confidence and allure, she crossed the threshold and made her way toward Yvette, who stood poised with her usual cool demeanor.
As Aurora approached, a charming smile spread across her face. “Hi there, young lady,” she said, her voice warm and inviting. “Thanks for helping out. What’s your name?” Her gaze never wavered from Yvette, clearly intrigued by the woman’s calm presence.
Yvette, who had been crouching with her legs bent, slowly raised herself and nodded nonchalantly, her posture effortlessly commanding attention. “Yvette,” she answered with a casual elegance, the single word carrying more weight than any elaborate introduction.
Aurora’s smile grew even brighter. No matter how she looked at Yvette, she found her irresistibly charming. “Young lady, let me treat you to some coffee. Not here though,” she added quickly, her eyes lighting up. “I know a place you’ll definitely like. It’s a lot better than this one.”
Yvette’s expression remained cool as she lowered her eyes, her calm composure never faltering. Upon hearing such a clichéd line, delivered with almost childlike enthusiasm, she simply nodded. “Alright.”
Aurora, pleased by the straightforwardness of Yvette’s response, couldn’t help but beam. She adored women like Yvette, who were unpretentious and bold. It was a refreshing change from the pretentious elite ladies of Betrico, who would likely have politely turned her down in a dull, boring way. Those women would never be on the same wavelength as her.
“That’s great!” Aurora said, her enthusiasm palpable. “Oh, I haven’t introduced myself yet. I’m Aurora. I run a company that dabbles in a little bit of everything,” she continued, tilting her head slightly as she spoke. The words seemed casual, but there was a glint in her eyes that suggested there was far more to her than just the surface.
Then, as if noticing Lucy for the first time, Aurora’s gaze flicked toward the woman. Her eyes narrowed slightly in recognition. “Wait, are you Lucy? The CEO of Fast Pulse Technologies?”
Lucy, who had been standing by in silence, felt a pang of irritation. She had been standing there for quite some time, yet it was only now that Aurora noticed her. The realization stung. ‘I’m supposed to be stunning, with smooth skin and long legs… and yet, I get ignored just because Yvette’s more beautiful? How unfair!’ she thought bitterly.
But Lucy couldn’t deny her fascination with Yvette. Despite the frustration of being overlooked, she couldn’t help but admire Yvette’s effortless elegance. Still, she wasn’t about to lose out in a beauty contest to anyone else.
Lucy nodded curtly, offering a polite smile. “Yes, that’s me. Hello, Aurora.”
Aurora, sensing the underlying tension, immediately offered Lucy a smile. “Would you like to join us for coffee?” she asked, her tone warmer now that she was addressing both women.
Lucy, fully aware of the subtle dynamics at play, realized that the invitation was more of a formality than anything else. Aurora wasn’t particularly sincere, and Lucy wasn’t about to waste her time with that. She politely declined, her voice measured. “Thank you, but no. I’m fine.”
Aurora’s smile never faltered, and if anything, her demeanor seemed even brighter. She clearly wasn’t fazed by the rejection. In fact, it only seemed to amuse her more.
Lucy, on the other hand, wasn’t surprised. She had learned to accept rejection from people like Aurora. It wasn’t that they didn’t recognize her worth—it was simply that they weren’t willing to play by the same rules. No one could touch Yvette, though. Lucy knew that much. After all, Yvette had something different about her—something that made her untouchable.
“I’ll let you go then,” Aurora said, her voice teasing as she waved a hand. With that, Lucy took her leave, her footsteps quick and decisive.
As Lucy exited, Aurora was about to take Yvette’s arm and head out for coffee when a sound made her pause. From the floor, Eleanore—who had fainted earlier—was slowly regaining consciousness. She groaned in pain, and then her hand shot up to her head. When her fingers brushed against her hair, she screamed in horror, realizing that some of it had been pulled out during the scuffle. The sound was sharp and miserable.
Yvette and Aurora turned to look at her, both women seemingly unfazed by the scene.
Eleanore, now somewhat composed, remained seated but clearly simmering with anger. She glared at Yvette, her voice trembling with fury. “You’re not getting away with this, you foolish girl.”
Aurora, not even sparing Eleanore a second glance, stepped in front of Yvette, her posture protective and firm. “Do you have no shame?” she demanded, her voice laced with disdain. “You think it’s okay to target a young girl like this? Do you know who I am? Come at me if you dare. What kind of coward targets someone so much younger?”
Eleanore’s face turned red with rage. She couldn’t believe that Aurora was standing there, defending Yvette so fiercely. Today’s humiliation was too much to bear. How could she let it slide without making a stand?
Her words came out through clenched teeth. “You’ve already hit us! We’ve let that go, but now you want us to forgive this girl? Step aside, Mrs. Chavez. This has nothing to do with you.”
The other women, though embarrassed by their injuries, nodded in agreement, wanting to avoid further trouble. They were influential figures in Betrico, and they understood that a public scandal could seriously damage their reputation.
But Aurora wasn’t backing down. She crossed her arms and shot them a cold look. “You didn’t get it, did you? I’m protecting her. So, if you have a problem, take it up with me.”
Before anyone could respond, the unmistakable sound of police sirens grew louder outside, cutting through the tension like a knife.
Yvette raised her eyes, noticing the brief flicker of a smile on the face of one of the women. The smile was fleeting, but Yvette had seen it, and it made her think. “Someone’s definitely been planning this,” she thought.
Aurora, however, wasn’t worried at all. The sound of sirens didn’t phase her. She had been to the police station before, and she was quite comfortable with the idea of going again. In fact, she found the entire situation amusing.
Noticing Yvette’s calm expression, Aurora quickly turned to her, trying to reassure her. “Yvette, don’t worry. I’ll protect you. If we need to go to the police station, let’s just think of it as a little field trip. I’ll call Clifford, and we’ll be out of there in no time.”
Yvette gave her a small, understanding nod. “Alright,” she said quietly.
Aurora patted her shoulder affectionately, her voice filled with a sisterly warmth. “When we get to the station, let’s have a little chat and see why we’re all here, okay? Don’t worry about them; just make sure you don’t get bullied.”
The women, now clearly on edge, exchanged nervous glances. Their husbands, they realized, would be furious if they found out they had crossed the Chavez family. The last thing they needed was to escalate things further.
Eleanore, still nursing her head injury, spoke up again, her voice shaking with tension. “Mrs. Chavez, let’s just call it off. We don’t need to go to the police. We understand you’re upset. Just let us go, and we’ll pretend this never happened.”
Aurora’s expression darkened as she fixed Eleanore with a cold stare. “I don’t care about your excuses,” she snapped. “You’re going to apologize. Otherwise, this won’t be over.”
As she spoke, she took out her phone and began dialing Clifford’s number. The change in her demeanor was instantaneous. One simple phone call, and she went from fierce protector to someone who could clearly pull strings when needed.
When Clifford picked up the phone, Aurora’s tone softened dramatically. “Honey, I’ve been bullied,” she whimpered, her voice high-pitched and dramatic. “I’m so scared… my hand hurts.”
Clifford, hearing the distress in her voice, immediately began making his way to the police station, panic rising within him.
