Chapter_259
Aurora walked to the side, slipping back into her high heels with practiced grace. She didn’t even spare a glance at the women writhing in pain on the floor. With a confident air, she made her way toward Yvette, flashing her a charming smile as she approached. “Hi there, young lady. Thanks for helping out. What’s your name?”
Yvette casually pulled her bent legs back, raising an eyebrow and nodding coolly. “Yvette.”
Aurora’s gaze softened, clearly taken by Yvette’s composure. “You’re delightful, no matter how I look at you. Let me treat you to some coffee. Not here, though. I know a better place you’ll definitely love.”
Yvette lowered her eyes slightly, maintaining her usual composed demeanor. She recognized the offer for what it was — just another typical, cliché line aimed at impressing someone. But she didn’t mind. With a calm nod, she agreed, “Alright.”
Aurora’s smile grew wider, delighted by Yvette’s straightforwardness. She relished the unpretentiousness of Yvette, unlike the pretentious elite women of Betrico who would have politely rejected her offer, boring her to no end. They weren’t on her wavelength. “Great. Oh, I haven’t introduced myself. I’m Aurora. I run a company that does a little bit of everything.” With a tilt of her head, she seemed to remember something.
She turned toward Lucy, who had been standing nearby the whole time, as if noticing her for the first time. “Are you Lucy, the CEO of Fast Pulse Technologies?”
Lucy felt a pang of frustration. After all, she was the one standing here next to Yvette the entire time, yet only now did Aurora notice her. She thought bitterly, How typical. I’m stunning, with flawless skin and long legs. The rumors were true. Aurora’s completely obsessed with looks. I’m a bit less beautiful than Yvette, so I’m invisible? Lucy couldn’t help but feel annoyed.
Despite her frustration, she nodded. “Hello, Aurora. I’m Lucy.”
Aurora, perhaps realizing how awkward the situation had become, quickly extended an invitation to Lucy, trying to smooth things over. “Would you like to join us?”
Lucy immediately understood that Aurora wasn’t really sincere in the invitation, so she politely declined. She wasn’t about to waste time with such empty gestures.
Aurora didn’t seem upset in the slightest, however. In fact, she appeared more cheerful.
Lucy, accustomed to having her heart broken by such interactions, was already preparing to leave. She assumed that everything had been taken care of — those women wouldn’t dare challenge Aurora. After all, it was clear that they understood who they were dealing with. With a final glance at Yvette, she said goodbye. She knew that if Yvette didn’t come to Betrico, she could always go to Seacrity.
Just as Lucy turned to leave, Eleanore, who had fainted earlier, groggily stirred and stood up. She looked around and froze when she saw the two women standing in front of her.
She instinctively touched her head, and her hand immediately encountered a painful reminder of what had happened — a handful of her own hair. The realization hit her like a ton of bricks, and she let out a horrifying scream, the sound chilling everyone in the room.
Yvette and Aurora both glanced at her.
Eleanore, still in shock, tried to gather her wits. She wasn’t about to lash out at Aurora, but Yvette… she didn’t know who she was. She wasn’t part of the elite circle in Betrico, so she figured she could still vent some frustration.
With the help of a few other women, Eleanore stood up, but her gaze remained fixed on Yvette, who was standing there composed and calm, seemingly unaffected by the chaos.
Eleanore’s voice shook with anger as she spat, “You silly girl, this isn’t over yet. We won’t let you get away with this.”
Hearing this, Aurora immediately stepped in front of Yvette, her expression turning cold. “Do you have no shame? Trying to bully a little girl like that, and you still don’t think about what I think? If you have a problem, come at me. What kind of bullies target a defenseless girl?”
Eleanore’s fury reached new heights. The humiliation she had suffered today was unbearable. If she couldn’t even deal with an ordinary girl, it would be utterly shameful. The last straw was seeing Aurora defend Yvette. Aurora wasn’t just some high-society lady playing games. She would jeopardize her own reputation to protect her.
The other women, witnessing Eleanore’s outburst, could only shrink back, unsure of how to handle the situation. None of them wanted to provoke Aurora.
Eleanore gritted her teeth, enduring the sharp pain in her scalp. She growled, “Mrs. Chavez, you’re going too far. You’ve already hit us, and we’ve let it slide. But why should we forgive her? Step aside. This isn’t your problem. We’re going after her.”
The other wealthy women nodded in agreement, hoping that Aurora would see reason. They were all influential figures in Betrico, and if they didn’t find a way to resolve this, their reputations would be at risk.
But Aurora just glanced at them coldly, her patience wearing thin. She saw how these women were still trying to push their agenda, and it was clear to her now that she hadn’t been forceful enough earlier. They needed to understand their place.
She straightened up, ready to escalate things. “Didn’t you hear me the first time? I’m protecting this person, so if you have issues, bring them to me.”
The room was thick with tension when suddenly, the sound of police sirens pierced the air.
Yvette glanced at the others with a calm, almost amused expression. One woman, dressed in a cheongsam, briefly smiled when she heard the sirens, though the smile was subtle. But Yvette caught it.
Eleanore, too, was taken aback. Her expression shifted to something almost comical as she wondered, Who called the police? What good would it do us now? Her thoughts quickly turned to the consequences. Especially with how protective the Chavez family is… this could escalate fast.
Aurora, however, was completely unphased. She didn’t care about the sirens. If she had to go to the police station, she’d treat it like a little adventure. After all, she’d been there before when she’d bravely hit a sleazy man with a brick to protect a girl.
Not wanting Yvette to worry, Aurora quickly reassured her. “Yvette, don’t be scared. I’ll protect you. Let’s just think of this as a little outing to the police station, okay? Give me a moment — I’ll call my husband and get us out of this.”
Yvette looked up, noticing the genuine concern in Aurora’s eyes. She hesitated for a moment before nodding obediently. “Okay.”
Aurora patted her shoulder in a sisterly manner, then glanced at the frightened women still standing before her. “When we get to the police station, we’ll talk it over. But don’t act like I bullied you. You better call your husbands, alright?”
The women exchanged fearful glances, clearly rattled. Eleanore, still clutching her aching head, spoke up, her voice trembling. “Mrs. Chavez, let’s just call it off, okay? We won’t go to the police. You’ve vented your anger already, haven’t you? Let’s just forget this ever happened.”
Aurora, who’d had enough of Eleanore’s endless complaints, didn’t bother with any pleasantries. She whipped out her phone and dialed her husband’s exclusive line, which was saved as number one on her contact list.
The moment the call went through, Aurora’s demeanor completely shifted. Her voice softened, her words dripping with sweet vulnerability.
“Honey, I was bullied. I’m so scared. My hand hurts…”
Eleanore and the other women stared at her in disbelief, utterly baffled by the transformation. The fierce, untamable Aurora had become a delicate, helpless woman with just one phone call.
