Chapter_215
The tension in the dark corner of the second floor was thick, the dim lighting from the hallway casting shadows on the walls as Robert pulled Winona closer, his fingers lightly grazing her belly. Winona’s breath hitched for a moment, but she quickly masked it, her voice calm and collected as she leaned into him. “You can’t be so reckless, Robert. If Victor finds out, everything we’ve worked for will be ruined.”
Robert’s expression darkened slightly, his fingers tightening around her. “Victor is asleep. He won’t find out.” His tone was low, filled with urgency and desire. “Besides, we can’t keep hiding forever. We have to make a move soon.”
Winona pushed him away gently, glancing nervously toward the door that led back to their bedrooms. “You’re being too reckless. We have a plan, don’t ruin it. I need to make the call.”
A sigh escaped Robert’s lips, but he stepped back, releasing his hold on her reluctantly. “Fine, but don’t take too long.” He ran a hand through his hair, frustration apparent in the way his jaw clenched.
Winona quickly retrieved her phone from her pocket and turned her back to him, walking toward the other side of the hallway. She didn’t want to show any weakness in front of Robert, though her mind was filled with unease. The pregnancy was becoming harder to hide, and the pressure of keeping this secret from both Victor and Claude was beginning to weigh on her. Yet, she couldn’t deny the promise Robert had made her. The idea of being with him—of starting a life that was entirely hers and free from Victor’s grasp—was enticing, even if it meant taking dangerous steps.
Her fingers hovered over the screen of her phone as she typed out a message.
[It’s almost time. Meet me tomorrow night.]
She sent the message before turning to face Robert again, her eyes narrowing slightly as she walked back toward him.
“Victor won’t find out,” she said firmly, but there was a hint of doubt in her voice that she couldn’t fully suppress.
Robert smirked, reaching for her once more, but Winona stepped back slightly, shaking her head. “Go back to your room before he wakes up. I’ll handle the rest.”
With a final lingering kiss on her cheek, Robert disappeared back into the shadows, leaving Winona standing alone in the quiet hallway. She stared at the door leading back to their shared room, her thoughts swirling. Was she doing the right thing? Could she really trust Robert and go through with it? Or was it all just a dangerous game that could ruin everything?
Meanwhile, Victor lay still in their bed, his eyes closed, but his mind wide awake. He had sensed something was off—felt Winona’s shift in behavior, her reluctance, her lies. He wasn’t entirely sure of what was happening, but one thing was clear: something was being hidden from him. The night’s events, however, didn’t seem like they would provide the answers he was looking for. He would have to bide his time and play his part.
The clock ticked on in the stillness of the night, both couples caught in a web of secrets, lies, and growing tension. But the threads were tightening, and it was only a matter of time before they snapped.
