The tension between Adrian and his assistant was palpable, the cold silence hanging heavy in the air. Adrian’s sharp gaze seemed to pierce through the assistant, who stood there trying to maintain his composure, despite the underlying resentment that seemed to radiate from his every gesture. It wasn’t lost on Adrian that his assistant had been acting strangely, growing more distant and… sarcastic. But now, in this moment, he couldn’t afford to focus on the subtle shift in attitude. He had more pressing matters to deal with.
Adrian exhaled slowly, running a hand through his hair in frustration. The events of the evening were spiraling out of control, and he could feel the weight of it all pressing on him. Eva, his wife, the pregnancy, Vivian’s injury—everything seemed to be getting tangled in a web of misunderstandings and misplaced emotions. Vivian’s sudden emotional breakdown and her desperate need for his attention only added to the chaos.
“Get yourself together,” Adrian muttered under his breath, more to himself than to the assistant.
His assistant, trying to swallow his discontent, nodded stiffly but said nothing more. He knew better than to argue, especially when Adrian’s mood was as dark as it was now. They both stood there in silence for a moment, until the assistant finally spoke up, albeit hesitantly.

The assistant could only nod again, though his inner thoughts were far from respectful. “Of course, Mr. Blackwood,” he thought bitterly. “You’ll never learn, will you? Keeping both women close and pretending that everything will just… work itself out.”
Adrian didn’t notice the assistant’s internal thoughts, though. He was too caught up in his own emotions. As he turned to leave, he paused, his gaze lingering on the assistant for a moment longer than necessary.
“Make sure she stays calm,” he said, his voice low and firm. “And if you can’t, stay out of my sight.”
The assistant gave a sharp nod, though his patience was wearing thin. He watched Adrian walk away, his mind filled with frustration and anger at the situation. It’s always the same with him. Never thinking about the consequences of his actions. He couldn’t stand the way Adrian was treating Eva and the way he constantly put Vivian above her, even though Eva was carrying his child. He doesn’t deserve either of them.
As Adrian made his way back to the hospital, his thoughts were torn in different directions. His sense of duty to both women, his wife and the woman he had been tangled up with for far too long, was pulling him in two directions. He couldn’t help but feel
