Adrian’s eyes darkened with anger as he looked down at Eva, his grip tightening. He hadn’t expected her to turn the tables so quickly, but it was clear now that she wasn’t going to back down easily. The tension between them crackled, but Adrian wasn’t about to let her get the last word.
“You think I’m jealous?” His voice was a low growl, his eyes narrowing with a cold intensity. “You really don’t understand, do you?”
Eva remained defiant, her eyes challenging him as she lay beneath him, pinned by his strong hold. The blood still stained the corner of her mouth, and she wiped it away with a flick of her tongue.
“You’re not my priority anymore, Adrian,” she said, her tone flat, almost indifferent. “So, no, I’m not worried about you being jealous. It’s just… funny to see you acting like this.”
Adrian’s jaw tightened, but he didn’t respond immediately. Instead, his gaze dropped to the small but noticeable bloodstain on her lips. The sight of it only fueled his anger further, but there was something else—something more than just frustration.
“Don’t act like you don’t care,” he muttered under his breath, lowering his face closer to hers. His grip on her wrists loosened just enough to give her a sense of space, but his presence remained overwhelming.
Eva’s heart skipped a beat, but she refused to show any vulnerability. “If you really cared, you wouldn’t treat me like this.”
Adrian’s fingers brushed against her cheek lightly, almost tenderly, and for a brief moment, the air between them shifted.
“I never wanted to hurt you,” he said, his voice softer, but still tinged with frustration. “But you’ve been pushing me away, Eva. You can’t just expect me to ignore that. You’ve changed, and I don’t know who you are anymore.”
Eva’s heart tightened at his words, but she quickly masked it with a cold smile. “Maybe I’ve always been this way, and you just never saw it.”
The silence between them was heavy, filled with unspoken emotions. Adrian stared down at her, his mind racing with thoughts of everything that had led them to this point. Was it too late to fix what was broken between them? Did he even want to fix it anymore?
Eva’s words stung more than she probably intended, and Adrian could feel the weight of her accusations hanging in the air. His hand dropped to her side, and he exhaled slowly, as though a weight had been lifted, but something darker remained in his eyes.
“Don’t think I’ve forgotten what you did, Eva. And don’t think for one second I’ll let you walk away without consequences.”
Eva’s eyes flickered with a mix of challenge and resignation. “I’m not afraid of consequences, Adrian. Not from you.”
The room seemed to shrink around them as their gazes locked, both of them caught in the tension of the moment.
