The air in the room shifted dramatically after Eva’s words. The tension was palpable, and Kris’s smug expression faltered for the first time. He had always seen himself as someone who could get anything he wanted, but Eva’s piercing gaze, combined with her sharp words, made him question his own arrogance.
For a moment, he just stared at her, trying to process the truth in her eyes. Eva had never forgotten the cruel words he and his friends had spoken years ago, and hearing them now, after all this time, hit him harder than he expected.
The silence stretched on, and Kris’s friends began to look uncomfortable, exchanging nervous glances as they realized they were witnessing a confrontation that went beyond typical business dealings.
Eva’s voice cut through the thick tension again, steady and clear. “You may have thought you could just use me for your amusement, but you’re not even worth the effort. I didn’t forget those words. I just chose not to waste any more time on someone like you.”
Kris’s face darkened, and his grip tightened around his drink. He had never expected Eva to bring up that incident, and it hit him in a place where he had never been vulnerable before. His pride, always so carefully guarded, was being chipped away in front of his friends.
“You think I’m pathetic, don’t you?” Kris spat, trying to regain control. “Is that it? You think just because I said those things five years ago, you can look down on me forever?”
Eva didn’t flinch. “I don’t think you’re pathetic, Kris. I know you are.”
Her words were like daggers, each one precisely aimed at his ego. Kris looked like he wanted to retort, but the weight of his own shame made it hard for him to respond. Eva had exposed him in a way that he could never recover from.
“I don’t want to waste any more time here, either,” Eva continued, her voice cold and detached. “This business deal is over. I won’t do business with people who think they can degrade others for their own entertainment.”
Jenny, who had been silently observing the exchange, seemed to snap out of her daze. She looked at Eva in awe—Eva had not only stood her ground but had dismantled Kris with her words.
Kris, still reeling from Eva’s cold rejection, attempted a weak smile. “You think you can just walk away from this? Do you really think you can get away with speaking to me like that? Do you know who I am?”
“Do you know who I am?” Eva’s question was almost a challenge. “I’m someone who doesn’t need to tolerate arrogance, entitlement, or disrespect.”
The atmosphere in the room had completely shifted. What had started as an awkward, uncomfortable evening was now filled with palpable tension. Kris’s bravado had evaporated, replaced by a simmering anger. But even that couldn’t overshadow the truth Eva had just exposed.
Kris’s friends, who had been watching in stunned silence, were now quietly murmuring among themselves, unsure of what to do next.
Eva stood up, her eyes never leaving Kris. “I’ll have my assistant handle any remaining business details. As for tonight, it’s over.”
Jenny quickly followed her, not looking back at Kris or the others.
As they walked toward the door, Eva’s voice was calm but full of finality. “And Kris, just so you know… I’m no longer the same person I was five years ago. Neither are you. But it doesn’t matter. I won’t let you disrespect me again.”
The door clicked shut behind them as they left the room, and for the first time that night, Eva felt a sense of peace wash over her. She had reclaimed control. She had made it clear that she wasn’t someone to be manipulated or dismissed.
As the elevator doors closed and the building’s bright lights faded behind them, Eva knew one thing for certain: she was done with people like Kris—and she would make sure to never let them in her world again.
