Vivian’s mind raced with a storm of emotions, her anger and frustration building with each passing second. As she lay in the sterile hospital room, tears still stained on her face, she couldn’t shake the image of Eva. The injustice of it all consumed her. If Eva hadn’t been in the picture, things would have been different. Her forehead wouldn’t be marred by an ugly scar, and Adrian would be by her side, comforting her, instead of leaving her here alone.
She clenched her fists, her nails digging into her palms as she thought of Eva’s smug face. “Why does she get to have everything? Why is she always in Adrian’s life, even when I’m the one who’s hurt?” Vivian seethed, her thoughts spiraling.
The room felt stifling, and every quiet noise made her more irritable. She could feel her pulse pounding in her temples, but she didn’t care. The need to vent was overwhelming, and if there was one thing she needed, it was Adrian’s undivided attention. She slammed her fist against the hospital bed, causing a few objects on the nearby table to rattle. The pain from her forehead was sharp, but it was nothing compared to the ache in her chest.
“Vivian, calm down! You can’t afford to agitate the wound!” one of the nurses called, her voice frantic as she tried to approach the bed.
But Vivian wasn’t listening. She couldn’t hear anything over the rush of anger and hurt. Adrian had left her—left her in the hospital with nothing but her thoughts, and where did he go? To Eva. To her.
In her rage, Vivian’s eyes darted around the room, finding a glass of water on the bedside table. She knocked it over, spilling the contents all over the floor. But the mess didn’t matter. The only thing that mattered was her feelings of betrayal.
“Eva, you think you’re so much better than me, don’t you?” Vivian muttered through gritted teeth, her eyes narrowing as she thought about everything Eva had. Adrian’s affection, his attention, his trust. And for what? For being perfect? Vivian couldn’t stand it.
A sudden knock at the door interrupted her tirade, but Vivian didn’t care. “Go away!” she snapped, her voice hoarse from all the yelling. Her frustration only seemed to grow with each passing minute.
The door creaked open slowly, and to her surprise, it wasn’t Adrian who walked in, but his assistant, looking as composed as ever. “Vivian, you need to rest,” the assistant said calmly, approaching with caution.
Vivian’s anger flared again. “Rest? Do you think I care about resting? Adrian doesn’t care about me, and neither do you!” she yelled, her voice cracking. She wiped her face with the back of her hand, trying to push back the tears that threatened to fall again.
“Vivian,” the assistant said softly, trying to reach her, but Vivian wasn’t interested in soothing words. All she wanted was Adrian, and she wanted him to choose her—choose her over Eva.
In the other room, Adrian sat in a darkened corner, his phone clenched tightly in his hand. He couldn’t stop thinking about what Eva had said. How had they gotten to this point? Her words, so sharp and bitter, had stung him deeply. He had tried to do the right thing by taking care of Vivian, but in doing so, had he pushed Eva away?
He glanced at his phone, debating whether to call her, to explain everything. But his hesitation was palpable. He knew he couldn’t just expect everything to be okay between them without a real conversation. The guilt he felt for not being there for Eva earlier that evening was overwhelming.
But as his mind wandered, he couldn’t help but think about Vivian. She was injured, hurt, and emotionally vulnerable. He couldn’t abandon her completely. But how could he balance it all? He closed his eyes for a moment, feeling the weight of his responsibility pull him in two directions.
Meanwhile, back at the hospital, Vivian’s mood swung between frustration and tears. She was alone, drowning in her thoughts, angry at the world, angry at Eva, and most of all, angry at herself. How had it come to this? How had she lost control so completely?
As she tried to calm herself, she knew deep down that there was no one who could make her feel better. Not the assistant, not the nurses, and certainly not Adrian. Only Eva had that power over her, and that realization made her hate her even more.
Adrian’s presence in her life had always been a double-edged sword. His affection, his attention—it was intoxicating. But when he pulled away, even for a moment, it felt like everything she had worked so hard for was slipping through her fingers. She had to have him. She wouldn’t let Eva take him away from her.
And with that thought, Vivian’s resolve strengthened. She wasn’t going to give up, not now, not after everything. She’d make Adrian see her. She’d make him realize that she was the one who needed him the most.
