Chapter_95
Once Yvette entered the car, she skipped the usual pleasantries and went straight to the point. “What’s going on with Flying Fish?”
Eagle King, with dark circles under his eyes and looking exhausted, let out a tired sigh. “Boss, a few days ago, someone placed an order on the Black Gold website targeting a man from Clusia. I don’t know if Flying Fish lost her mind or if she got carried away by that celebrity, but she didn’t even check the details before accepting the job. She only realized after arriving that the person she was supposed to kill wasn’t just anyone—he’s a major general from Clusia.”
Yvette’s brow furrowed as she listened. Eagle King continued, “It wasn’t a big issue to go through with it, but then Flying Fish found out that Caleb had ordered the hit. That major general had destroyed one of his transnational crime organizations. When she learned that, she wanted to call it off.”
Eagle King sighed, a mix of affection and exasperation in his tone. “You know that crazy woman despises human traffickers and would love nothing more than to tear them apart. So, why would she take the job when someone else was already doing her a favor by targeting those scum?”
He paused, then added, “I got her message, and that’s basically what it said. Since I arrived in Kransbay, I’ve been tracking Flying Fish’s last known location. I finally found her latest signal in the Kerton family’s territory down south. She must’ve been caught by accident.”
“The good news is that she didn’t reveal her identity as Flying Fish when she took the job. She used a regular account. Can you imagine what would’ve happened if the Kerton family had discovered they had captured the world’s third-ranked assassin? Boss, you know many people want Flying Fish dead,” Eagle King finished.
Yvette’s hand faltered as she held her phone. A major general from Clusia? In the Golden Triangle a few days ago? she thought. It had to be him—he was the person Flying Fish had been assigned to kill. Yvette’s thoughts raced. For the first time, she felt a slight headache. She was almost certain that person was still somewhere in the Golden Triangle. What if they crossed paths?
A wave of unease washed over her, something she hadn’t felt before. Her stomach tightened.
She glanced at Eagle King, who looked like he hadn’t slept in days. She quietly reached into her pocket, pulled out a candy, and tossed it over to him. Without turning his head, Eagle King caught it with one hand and popped it into his mouth without even bothering to unwrap it.
Yvette didn’t say anything. She knew that the candy’s wrapper was edible and even had therapeutic effects, though few people were aware of it. Eagle King was one of those few.
“Do you know Caleb’s whereabouts?” Yvette asked, her tone sharp but calm.
Eagle King nodded. After days of investigation, he’d finally made some headway. “Caleb is a coward who rarely makes public appearances. His eldest son, Bradley, usually represents him. However, according to my contacts, Caleb has about ten martial artists hired to protect him around the clock.”
He furrowed his brow. “It’s tricky, but I’ve got some reliable intel that Caleb will be attending an auction three days from now. The event is happening at the exhibition hall downtown, and it’s supposed to be huge. It’ll attract gem lovers from all over the world, and the Kransbay government is backing it. The Kerton family is behind it all.”
Eagle King wasn’t concerned about Caleb’s martial arts experts. He knew that the real challenge was tracking Caleb down. Like a clever rabbit with multiple burrows, Caleb’s whereabouts were constantly changing. Any rash actions would only alert their enemies.
“If Flying Fish hadn’t been captured, I would have barged in with heavy weapons and wiped those scum out,” Eagle King muttered.
Yvette listened carefully, her mind processing the information. Then, she pulled out her phone, which quickly transformed into a mini handheld computer. Within moments, a map appeared, showing all of the Kerton family’s potential hiding spots, including their underground bunkers.
“Get us two invitations,” Yvette ordered, her voice cold and determined. “Flying Fish won’t go down that easily. She’s got some self-preservation instincts. Even if Caleb catches her, he can’t do much. Flying Fish has the Drunken Beauty I gave her, and unless she allows it, no one can get close to her so quickly.”
Yvette casually slipped the phone back into her pocket, her eyes clear, but the chill emanating from her grew stronger.
Eagle King felt a wave of relief wash over him when Yvette mentioned the Drunken Beauty. He knew it was a powerful antidote, and with Flying Fish’s skill and the Drunken Beauty, she’d be fine. He was also curious where Yvette had found such an expert in toxins and medicine.
For instance, the candy she had given him seemed like an ordinary piece of candy at first. Yet, after tasting it, he had realized its incredible effects—it healed injuries and regulated internal energy. It was the kind of “candy” no one would believe if you told them about it.
Sometimes, when Eagle King saw Yvette casually eating it like a snack, he couldn’t help but feel a twinge of anxiety. Each candy could easily cost millions of dollars. He didn’t dare to think about it too much. Only someone like Boss could afford such extravagance. Who knows who’s backing her? he thought.
“Boss, I’ll drop you off at the hotel so you can rest,” Eagle King said, his voice softer. “I’ll head to a friend’s place. He should have some invitations. Don’t worry.”
Yvette, however, shook her head. She looked at Eagle King, who was clearly exhausted. “Let’s go back to the hotel. You’re not leaving until you’ve slept for at least 12 hours.”
Eagle King glanced at Yvette’s cold, exquisite face in the rearview mirror. He paused, then nodded. “Alright. I get it, Boss.”
He realized he had been acting irrationally. If he continued pushing himself, they wouldn’t be able to rescue Flying Fish. He’d only become a burden to Yvette.
Yvette, satisfied with his decision, said nothing more. If Eagle King hadn’t listened, she would’ve had to knock him out.
Later that evening, Kevin was helping his uncle with the luggage outside the hotel when he suddenly spotted the girl he had seen on the plane earlier that day. He considered approaching her but noticed a tall man walking over and helping her carry a black bag. They entered the hotel together.
Kevin sighed in relief, thinking he had narrowly avoided trouble. That guy would’ve probably turned me into mincemeat! he thought. He was glad he hadn’t gone over to talk to her.
Inside the hotel, Yvette and Eagle King headed to the presidential suite at the far end of the third floor. Eagle King had booked the room himself. When he wasn’t on a mission, he didn’t hold back on himself, preferring luxury accommodations.
But after days of travel, Eagle King hadn’t had the chance to rest there yet.
Meanwhile, in VIP Presidential Suite 301, Jeremiah sat quietly on the couch. Chris was standing beside him, updating him on the information he had gathered.
