Chapter_54
Justin, who had been standing at the entrance of the casino, was the first to react. He rushed over to Ethan’s side as quickly as possible, his face filled with concern.
He could hardly believe how drastically the situation had turned. The girl he had initially dismissed as unimportant had casually produced 100 million dollars, while Ethan—whom he was certain would win—had not only lost miserably but was also so shaken that he seemed physically unwell.
Moreover, Ethan was Daniel’s son. If anything happened to him at Sky Nimbus, it would be disastrous for Justin’s career.
“Mr. Brooks! Mr. Brooks, are you all right?” Justin asked anxiously. “Hang in there—we’ll get you to the hospital right away.”
Ethan wiped the corner of his mouth, struggling to regain his composure. Despite his frustration, he forced himself to stay steady. His gaze locked onto Yvette.
“You won,” he said, his voice edged with resentment. “What’s your name?”
He had already made up his mind—once he learned her name, she would have no way to avoid him as long as she remained in Seacrity. He couldn’t take any drastic actions with so many people watching, but once the night was over, he planned to involve his father. Dealing with a single person couldn’t be that difficult.
Just then, a few droplets of blood had landed on Yvette’s hand. She glanced down at them, her expression turning cold.
The mood in the room shifted immediately.
Only Eagle King recognized the subtle but dangerous shift in Yvette’s demeanor. Without hesitation, he walked over and offered her a clean wet wipe.
Yvette lifted her gaze, her expression unreadable. “They’re dirty.”
Eagle King carefully wiped the blood from her fingers, handling the task with meticulous care.
The onlookers watched, puzzled. To them, it seemed unnecessary to be so particular over a few small drops.
Bonnie, however, saw the situation differently. She had a strong feeling that if Eagle King hadn’t stepped in, things might have escalated in an unexpected direction.
A towering man gently cleaning the hands of a composed young woman—it was an unusual sight.
Eagle King sighed softly, his voice unusually gentle. “Boss, they’re clean now.”
Yvette looked at her now spotless hands, her expression softening slightly. The tension in the air dissipated. “Okay,” she murmured.
Eagle King let out a quiet sigh of relief.
Seeing the exchange, Ryan stepped forward, positioning himself between Ethan and Yvette. “That’s enough, Ethan. You’ve lost. There’s no point in dragging this out any further.”
Ryan’s words hit Ethan hard. His composure cracked, and he finally collapsed, overwhelmed by frustration.
The room fell into chaos once again.
After Ethan was taken away, Sky Nimbus presented Yvette with the 100-million-dollar check according to the casino’s regulations. She barely glanced at it before tossing it to Eagle King, turning to leave without hesitation. Her only instruction was for him to ensure Bonnie returned safely to the dormitory.
Bonnie hesitated, wanting to follow Yvette, but Eagle King stopped her.
“Don’t,” he said firmly. “Boss needs some time alone right now.”
Bonnie nodded, trusting Eagle King’s judgment. He had known Yvette far longer than she had.
With the main figures gone, the remaining guests lost interest. The once lively top floor gradually emptied.
The night’s events had been beyond anything they expected.
A young woman had challenged the son of Seacrity’s deputy mayor and won 100 million dollars in a single round.
The fallout from this incident was bound to ripple through high society.
After Yvette and the others left, Ryan saw to it that the physics department students were safely sent home, making sure to remind them not to discuss what had happened at school.
Meanwhile, at a villa in Seacrity, Daniel received a late-night call from Justin, informing him that Ethan had been admitted to Seacrity Hospital.
The news jolted him awake. Any lingering drowsiness vanished as he hurriedly got dressed and instructed his driver to take him to the hospital immediately.
Upon arrival, Justin wasted no time in recounting the night’s events in full detail.
Daniel listened in silence, his expression growing darker by the second.
Ethan had lost a high-stakes bet to an unknown young woman, and in his frustration, he had ended up in the hospital.
For years, Daniel had been a respected figure in Seacrity’s political scene, and few had dared to challenge his influence. While he had been aware of Ethan’s fondness for gambling, he had never considered it a serious issue. After all, his son’s skills at the game had always ensured that he never suffered any significant losses.
But tonight had been different. Ethan had not only lost a staggering sum but had also let his emotions get the better of him. The Brooks family had become a topic of ridicule.
Daniel’s voice was sharp and commanding as he turned to Justin. “Do you know anything about this woman’s background?”
Justin hesitated before responding cautiously, “We’re not entirely sure. She came with Ryan Lewis—she appears to be one of his classmates.”
Daniel’s frown deepened. “Ryan Lewis? From the Lewis family?”
Justin nodded. “Yes, that’s right.”
Daniel’s gaze shifted to his unconscious son, frustration evident in his eyes.
He had warned Ethan before to be mindful of his conflicts with Ryan. If Ethan wanted to secure a future in politics, he needed the support of Seacrity’s major families—especially the Lewis family. He had advised his son to exercise restraint, yet here he was, once again caught up in a dispute over old grievances.
Daniel took a deep breath, trying to suppress his irritation. He knew that open conflict with the Lewis family wasn’t an option. However, if Ryan was willing to hand over the woman who had embarrassed Ethan, then the matter could be settled.
Turning to his secretary, he instructed, “Call Lionel. Tell him I want that girl brought to Ethan’s ward by tomorrow.”
At that moment, Lionel was at home, waiting for Ryan’s return.
He had planned to take an early flight to Mysonna the next morning for a business trip, so he had gone to bed early. However, he had been abruptly woken up when his butler rushed in, handing him the phone with a worried expression.
It was Daniel’s secretary.
Lionel’s brows furrowed as he listened to the details.
Apparently, Ryan had taken a girl to a casino event, where she had ended up in a high-stakes bet with Ethan. In the end, Ethan had become so upset that he had been hospitalized. Now, Daniel was demanding that the girl be handed over to resolve the matter.
Lionel was furious.
He had tried calling Ryan several times, but his son’s phone was off. Left with no other choice, he sat in the living room, waiting.
When Ryan finally walked through the door, Lionel’s patience had already worn thin.
“Do you have any idea how reckless you were today?” he snapped.
Ryan sighed, already exhausted from the night’s events. The last thing he wanted was a confrontation.
“I don’t know,” he replied indifferently.
Lionel’s frustration boiled over, and he slammed his coffee cup onto the floor.
“What do you mean you don’t know?” he demanded. “You let this situation escalate, and now Ethan is in the hospital. Don’t think that just because your grandfather supports you, you can act however you please! When he hears about this, he won’t take your side. Listen to me—first thing tomorrow, you will bring that girl to Ethan’s ward and settle this.”
Ryan’s expression remained impassive, but his gaze sharpened.
He had no intention of following his father’s orders.
