Chapter_70
Yvette raised an eyebrow, slightly intrigued. “The general manager?” she asked, glancing around the room as if trying to piece together the situation.
Jimmy hesitated for a moment before he handed her a sleek envelope, his face carefully neutral. “Yes, Ms. Zeller. It’s from him. He mentioned it was important, but I don’t have more details.”
Yvette took the envelope with a deliberate calmness, her fingers brushing over the smooth paper before sliding it open. Inside was a single, neatly folded sheet of paper. She unfolded it and read through the contents. As her eyes scanned the document, she raised an eyebrow again.
Simon and Tobias exchanged brief, silent glances, clearly wondering what was on the paper that caused Yvette to pause for a moment.
Yvette exhaled a soft breath, folding the letter back up and slipping it into her bag. “It seems like I’ll need to make a trip,” she said nonchalantly. “There’s something I have to handle. But before I go, is there anything else you need from me?”
Tobias, leaning back in his chair with his arms folded, gave her a sharp look. “Are you sure this is something you want to get involved in, Yvette? Sometimes things are better left untouched.”
Yvette met his gaze with an easy smile, her expression unreadable. “I can handle it, Mr. Sunderland. I’m used to dealing with complicated situations.”
Simon, who had been quiet up until now, spoke up, his tone a bit softer. “Just be careful, Yvette. You’ve made quite the impression at this school, but there are people who might not appreciate it.”
Yvette gave a small nod, her voice almost too casual. “I’m not worried. People like that tend to forget that it’s easier to ignore the loud ones than face them head-on.”
With that, she turned to Jimmy. “Let him know I received it. I’ll handle things from here.”
As Yvette left the office, the two men exchanged another brief glance, both sensing that the calm and collected demeanor Yvette displayed was masking something much deeper and far more calculated. What she was involved in, they couldn’t quite place, but they both had a feeling it was far more complex than they realized.
Back outside, Yvette didn’t waste any time. Her mind was already moving ahead, thinking about what the general manager’s letter might entail, but for now, she had other matters to attend to. She walked down the hall with the same confident stride, her focus unwavering. The next chapter was about to unfold.
