Chapter_72
Simon watched as Yvette left, the door closing softly behind her. The silence in the office felt heavier than ever. He stood still for a moment, lost in thought, trying to process everything that had just been revealed.
Yvette, or rather, Siren. The physicist he had spent so long searching for. She had been right in front of him the entire time, and he hadn’t known. The implications of this discovery were immense, but he knew pressing her would be a mistake. Yvette wasn’t someone to be cornered or rushed. She would choose her own path, no matter what anyone else wanted.
He sank back into his chair, massaging his temples. It was clear that this was far from over. Whatever decision Yvette made, it would ripple out in ways none of them could predict. He could only hope that she would make the right choice, not just for herself, but for the future of the country.
Outside, in the hall, Patrick hurried away from Simon’s office, his mind spinning. The conversation he had just overheard—Yvette being Siren—was more than he could process in a single moment. He hadn’t realized how deep Simon’s connection with her went, nor had he expected it to change his perception of her. He had always thought of Yvette as just another student, but now she was something much more.
As he walked down the hallway, he couldn’t help but feel a growing sense of unease. What did this mean for him? For Argrol University? Patrick had always believed that knowledge and influence were the keys to power, but now he wasn’t so sure. Yvette seemed to wield both without even trying.
Back in the office, Simon stood up again, glancing at the door where Yvette had just exited. Despite the confusion and the complexity of the situation, one thing was clear: he couldn’t let her slip away again. Whatever it took, he had to find a way to convince her to join the cause, to see the bigger picture and how her mind could shape the future.
He couldn’t afford to let her slip through his fingers. The country needed someone like her, but he also knew she wouldn’t be easily swayed. He had no idea where she was headed next, but he could already feel the weight of the upcoming days press down on him.
And as the clock ticked on, the question that lingered in his mind was whether or not Yvette would truly choose to step into the world he wanted to offer her, or if she would continue to walk her own path, leaving them all behind in the dust.
