Chapter_94
Outside the auditorium, Yvette told Bonnie to leave first. Then, she found a quiet corner to make a call to Eagle King.
The phone rang twice before Eagle King’s urgent voice came through. “Boss, how soon can you get here?”
There was no need for additional explanations between them; both knew exactly what the other meant.
While talking to Eagle King, Yvette quickly checked the latest flights from Seacrity to Thymion. Then, she responded, “I’ll be in Thymion’s capital in four hours. What happened with Flying Fish?”
Eagle King’s tone became serious, mixed with a slight concern. “Boss, Flying Fish has offended the largest underworld family in the Golden Triangle, the Kerton family. After sending me a message, he disappeared. I’m already in Kransbay, where Flying Fish was last seen. It’s a complicated situation. I’ll explain more when you arrive.”
“Okay,” Yvette replied, hanging up. She immediately sent Simon a message before heading back to her dorm to grab her bag. She then took a taxi straight to the airport.
Meanwhile, Simon was dining at a restaurant with Jaiden and Zion. Just as he was about to eat, Yvette’s message popped up on his phone.
He read the message, slightly taken aback. Then, as if nothing was wrong, he continued to entertain Jaiden and Zion. However, he seemed distracted compared to before.
Yvette had asked for leave! And the duration was uncertain. Simon sighed to himself, I could protect her if she were under my watch, but now she’s leaving. How can I keep an eye on her?
At the dining table, Jaiden tried to cozy up to Zion with flattering remarks. Zion, not one to engage with businessmen too much, kept things casual, avoiding deep conversations. On the other hand, Sawyer, who had come along with Zion, was very enthusiastic and engaged in lively discussions with Jaiden.
Simon couldn’t shake the concern for Yvette’s safety and whereabouts. He sighed again, catching Zion’s attention. Zion set down his utensils, noticing Simon’s distraction. “What’s wrong?”
Thinking it wasn’t a big issue, Simon replied, “Yvette’s taken leave for personal matters.”
Hearing this, Sawyer scoffed. “I bet Ms. Zeller is backing out. I heard she has a few more matches in the next two days.”
Zion shot a disapproving glance at Sawyer. He wasn’t fond of Sawyer’s attitude, especially his malice. Zion had brought Sawyer along to help him step out of his comfort zone and socialize more, but now he questioned whether it had been worth it. Forget it. Once we’re back in Betrico, I’ll let him find his own way, he thought.
Jaiden, unfazed by the comment, just smiled nonchalantly and sipped his coffee, hiding his own thoughts.
Simon, however, was briefly stunned by Sawyer’s harsh words. They reminded him of an issue he had to address: how to manage Yvette’s upcoming competitions. After a moment, he came up with a plan. No choice. I’ll have to pull some strings for her, he thought.
That same day, the university website announced a new rule: students could no longer register for multiple events, allowing more people to participate. This change sparked brief discussions among the students. Some were happy about the rule, finding the previous one unfair.
The competitions continued without Yvette in the next few days.
Meanwhile, Yvette was already on a plane to Thymion. A young man, Kevin Garcia, noticed her beauty and decided to flirt with her, especially since she was traveling alone.
Sitting just one seat away, Kevin struck a pose and approached Yvette. “Hello, Miss. Are you also going to Thymion? I’m going with my uncle to explore Kransbay. Are you going for a vacation?”
Yvette turned her gaze toward him, her eyes sharp. Kevin, who appeared to be around 19 years old, was dressed in flashy luxury brands. The only feature that stood out was his charming eyes, which added a touch of handsomeness to his face.
“Kransbay,” Yvette replied, her tone cold and distant.
Kevin shivered, surprised by her icy response. He hadn’t expected such a cold voice from someone so beautiful. For a moment, he felt intimidated. Despite his earlier flirtatious demeanor, it was his first time trying to talk to someone like her.
Yvette, noticing his nervousness, immediately saw through him. Just a boy trying to talk to me out of boredom, she thought. “Why are you going to Kransbay?” she asked.
Under her gaze, Kevin nervously spilled the truth. “I… I’m going to Kransbay for an auction in three days. My uncle runs a jewelry store, and he’s going there to stock up.”
Kevin lowered his head, deeply regretting his words. Oh no! I’ve said too much. If Uncle Martin finds out I told a stranger this much, he’ll surely get mad at me, he thought.
Yvette closed her eyes for a moment, her face expressionless but cold. She didn’t respond to him further.
Kevin raised his head to check if she was asleep. Did she fall asleep already? he wondered. He reassured himself that she probably didn’t know what an auction was, assuming someone like her wouldn’t visit such places.
But after a few minutes, Kevin lost interest in talking to Yvette. He preferred women who were pretty and gentle, and though Yvette was beautiful, her fierce demeanor made her less appealing to him.
After a four-hour flight, the plane landed in Thymion’s capital. The tropical climate of Thymion was known for being incredibly hot year-round, often reaching over 86°F. Summer made the heat even more unbearable.
Kevin immediately began complaining about the weather as he saw his uncle. “This place is so hot! Clusia has such a better climate with its distinct seasons.”
Once Yvette exited the airport, she spotted Eagle King waiting by the roadside.
Eagle King had kept his whereabouts secret on his trip to Southeast Aploth. Dressed in floral pants, he looked imposing, and the tattoos on his arms caught the attention of the ladies around, making them turn their heads frequently.
It made sense that the women were checking him out—Thymion had a gender imbalance, and tall, handsome men like Eagle King were rare.
“Boss, over here… Here!” Eagle King shouted, instantly spotting Yvette among the crowd.
In the scorching weather, the only person who would be dressed in black from head to toe was Yvette. Eagle King knew her sensitivity to the cold well.
Hearing his shout, Yvette glanced around, immediately spotting him. She walked toward Eagle King, her black bag slung over her shoulder, unaware of the figure in white nearby.
Emmett, dressed in a black suit, stood next to a black car, holding the door open. Just as Jeremiah was about to get in, he heard someone speaking in Clusian. He stopped, gazing into the distance, where he saw a familiar, slender figure in black.
His heart skipped a beat. She… could it be her?
When he tried to get a clearer look, the car had already driven away. Jeremiah sighed inwardly. It’s only been a few days, and I miss her this much?
After getting into the car, Jeremiah hesitated, took out his phone, and made a call. However, the message he received was the same. The number you have dialed is unavailable.
“Her phone is off?” Jeremiah muttered to himself before sending a message to Andrew. He quickly received a reply from Andrew: [Yvette just won the plans competition. I’m keeping an eye on her, so don’t worry.]
Andrew, lost in his game, had no idea that the person he was supposed to be watching over was already in Thymion.
Reading the message, Jeremiah felt slightly relieved but also uneasy. Little did he know, he had just missed Yvette by a matter of moments.
Putting his phone away, Jeremiah frowned. He was now more aware than ever that things were far more complicated than he had anticipated, especially with the Kerton family involved—the largest underworld family in the Golden Triangle.
