Chapter_56
Bonnie’s heart skipped a beat as she turned toward the source of the voice. Standing at the door of the classroom, her posture calm and confident, was none other than Yvette. The students in the room immediately shifted, some even glancing up from their books as if relieved by her presence. Bonnie quickly slipped her phone back into her bag, but she couldn’t help but feel a wave of concern.
The two police officers looked taken aback for a moment, clearly not expecting Yvette to appear so calmly in front of them. They had assumed she would try to flee or at least show some sign of guilt, but Yvette’s composed demeanor left them uncertain.
“Yes, we’ve been looking for you,” Officer Nolan said, his tone still firm but slightly hesitant. “We have an arrest warrant for you on charges of assault. You need to come with us.”
Yvette’s eyes narrowed slightly as she scanned the officers, her expression unchanging. The entire room had fallen silent, all eyes on her as she took a deliberate step forward, making it clear she wasn’t intimidated.
“Assault?” Yvette’s voice was smooth and controlled, laced with a hint of amusement. “You must be mistaken. I haven’t assaulted anyone.”
Patrick, standing off to the side, felt his heart race. He couldn’t help but be a bit impressed by Yvette’s fearless stance, though he still felt a twinge of satisfaction at her predicament.
“Yvette, you should go with them,” he murmured, trying to maintain his professionalism while secretly relishing the idea of seeing her caught up in trouble. “It’s better not to resist.”
Yvette turned her gaze on Patrick, her eyes hardening for just a second before she addressed the officers again. “Before I go anywhere, I think you should check who exactly is behind these accusations. Perhaps someone is trying to use you for their own purposes.”
The police officers exchanged an uneasy look, clearly caught off guard by her calm response. They had expected a more typical reaction—fear, resistance, or confusion. But Yvette was giving them none of that. Instead, she was asserting control over the situation.
Nolan hesitated for a moment. “We have the warrant. We don’t have time for games, Miss Yvette.”
Yvette’s lips curved into a sly smile. “If you think I’m running from this, you’re mistaken. But you should know one thing: I won’t make this easy for anyone. Not without the truth being made known.”
Her words hung in the air, a subtle challenge in the way she said them. The officers exchanged another glance. Something about Yvette’s calm confidence made them doubt whether they were handling this correctly. She wasn’t acting like someone who had something to hide.
Bonnie, still anxiously watching the scene unfold, took a step toward Yvette. She whispered under her breath, “Yvette, don’t do anything reckless. Just go with them. You’ll figure it out.”
Yvette gave Bonnie a small nod but didn’t break her confident stance. Turning back to the officers, she finally spoke again. “You want to arrest me for assault? Fine. But I promise you this: if you don’t find out who’s really behind this, the tables will turn.”
Her words hung in the air like a promise, one that seemed to be aimed at someone far beyond the reach of the police officers standing in front of her.
Nolan looked at his partner, clearly unsure. “Do we really want to take her in like this?”
Patrick, sensing an opportunity to gain favor from higher-ups, quickly spoke up. “It’s better to just follow the orders. This is no time for hesitation.”
Yvette, noticing the indecision, tilted her head slightly. “I see you’ve already made your choice. Very well. Lead the way.”
Her calm demeanor remained unwavering as she followed the officers out of the classroom, her eyes scanning the room as she passed. Every student there was watching with bated breath, some whispering under their breath, others clearly uncomfortable with the whole situation. Bonnie watched Yvette leave, her heart heavy with worry.
As the door closed behind them, the tension in the classroom broke, but the weight of the moment remained. Everyone knew that Yvette wasn’t someone who would be easily defeated—and if anything, this arrest might be the beginning of something far more explosive than anyone had anticipated.
