Chapter_48
Bonnie looked over at Yvette, who was sprawled out in bed, clearly uninterested in the upcoming dinner. “You’re really not going, huh?” she asked, her voice tinged with disappointment.
Yvette barely moved, only managing a lazy hum as a response. “Not my scene. And I have no interest in playing dress-up for some fancy dinner.” She was still covered by the blanket, looking like she could sleep for days.
Bonnie let out a small sigh. It wasn’t that she didn’t understand Yvette’s indifference—it was just that the whole idea of Sky Nimbus, with its glitz and status, felt like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. For people like them, it wasn’t every day they’d get invited to such an exclusive place. Still, she knew better than to push Yvette too hard.
Bonnie glanced at the messages in the group chat again. There were so many excited texts about the dinner, with everyone planning outfits and talking about what to wear. Ryan, apparently, had already started making arrangements, and there was even a bit of banter about who would sit with whom.
As she scrolled through, she couldn’t help but wonder if Yvette was ever interested in these kinds of events. Sure, she was gorgeous, but there was no doubt that Yvette lived by her own rules. She had always been detached from the whole social ladder, but Bonnie couldn’t help but feel a little bit like she was missing out.
When Bonnie glanced back at Yvette, the other girl had her eyes half-closed, clearly determined to nap through it all. “Fine,” Bonnie mumbled to herself, “I’ll just go solo. I’ll have fun enough for the both of us.”
Yvette didn’t react to her words, her peaceful expression unchanging. Bonnie smiled to herself and pulled a cute, yet slightly more extravagant dress out of her wardrobe. As she held it up in front of the mirror, she couldn’t help but feel the weight of comparison once again. Yvette, in her casual clothing, could easily outshine any of them with minimal effort.
“Some people have it all,” Bonnie muttered with a playful roll of her eyes, but the truth was, she admired Yvette’s effortless beauty. It was as if the world itself bent around her, and no one seemed to be able to stop it.
As Bonnie started getting ready, she couldn’t help but think about the dynamics of this strange little group she was a part of. Yvette was an enigma, someone who attracted attention without meaning to. Jeremiah, the so-called “Top Dog,” still loomed in the background with his mysterious connections, and now there was Ryan—the quiet genius whose family background put him in a league of his own.
Bonnie was caught in the middle of all of this, sometimes feeling like she was the only one who didn’t quite fit. She had the most normal life, and though she enjoyed it, there was a part of her that wondered what it would be like to walk in Yvette’s shoes for just a day. Or to have Jeremiah’s power, Ryan’s intelligence, or Zeke’s charm.
But as she finished getting ready and checked her phone one last time, a thought lingered in her mind: maybe she didn’t need to be like them to be happy. Maybe it was okay to just be Bonnie. But tonight, she’d enjoy herself. After all, it was Sky Nimbus—how many chances did she get to experience something like that?
She took a deep breath, looked in the mirror, and grinned. It was time to make the best of the night.
