Chapter_109
However, the next moment, the cup was already in Yvette’s hand. Tobias barely saw a blur as she moved to the other side. When he looked again, the cup was in her grasp. Yvette raised an eyebrow and kept a straight face, her gaze fixed on Sophia.
Sophia froze, panic flashing in her eyes. Yvette’s unflinching stare made her feel small, almost insect-like. She tugged at the cup, using all her strength, but Yvette’s hand remained unyielding. Realizing she had no chance, Sophia grabbed her bag, muttering curses as she stormed out, not daring to look back.
Tobias stood there, stunned. Yvette had handled the situation without uttering a single word, effortlessly getting rid of Sophia while all his attempts had failed. Once Sophia left, Tobias let out a sigh of relief. Finally, it was over. Turning to Yvette, he expressed his gratitude. “I’m glad you showed up. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have known how to get out of that mess.”
Tobias was generally well-liked by his students. His relatively young age and easygoing nature meant he rarely acted like a strict teacher unless the situation called for it. With Yvette, he considered her more of a friend than just a student.
Yvette handed the milkshake to Bonnie and glanced at the now-relieved Tobias. In a calm voice, she remarked, “If you don’t like something, then don’t do it. Why make things harder on yourself?”
Tobias froze, staring at her for a moment. A bitter smile appeared on his face. “Easier said than done. A lot of things in life are out of our control.” He looked at Yvette, his tone carrying a hint of sadness. It was unclear whether he was referring to the blind date or something deeper, but there was a noticeable sorrow in his expression.
Bonnie, standing nearby, had no idea what they were talking about. It was just a blind date, right? Why were they making it so philosophical? She shrugged it off and focused on sipping her milkshake.
Yvette took a sip of her own milkshake, savoring the sweetness. She wasn’t one to meddle in other people’s affairs, but for some reason, she had felt compelled to speak up that day.
Tobias didn’t respond. He simply took a sip of his coffee, and the three of them sat in silence, each lost in their own thoughts as they drank their beverages. The peaceful moment was interrupted when Tobias’ phone rang. He hastily excused himself, saying goodbye to the two before heading out.
After finishing their drinks, Yvette and Bonnie made their way toward the campus entrance, only to spot a black MPV parked nearby. A man stepped out and walked directly toward Yvette. As he reached her, he bowed respectfully.
“Ms. Zeller, would you please come with me? Mr. Chambers is waiting for you.” The man, Lucas, was dressed in a suit. He looked at Yvette with admiration. He was the one who had brought her back earlier. He had always suspected that Yvette was no ordinary person.
In just a month’s time, Yvette had accomplished so much. She had won the Frixyia competition, caused the Sullivan family’s downfall, and driven them out of Seacrity. She had forced Rebecca into action, leading to Victor’s public apology. She had even crossed paths with Daniel’s son, resulting in the intervention of Simon, Wyatt, and Jeremiah. Eventually, Daniel had been taken down. Just recently, she had won a piano competition, and even though Lucas wasn’t there, he had heard from Zachary that Yvette knew the world-renowned pianist Bryan, who had video-called her to show his support.
With each event that piled up, it became clear that Yvette was far more than the country girl everyone had assumed. Lucas stared at her, lost in thought, marveling at her delicate features. He snapped out of his reverie when Yvette’s cold voice broke through.
“What’s the matter?” she asked.
Lucas knew getting her to agree wouldn’t be easy, but he was prepared. If necessary, he would shamelessly beg her to get into the car. But before he could prepare himself, Yvette spoke again.
“Let’s go.”
Lucas’ heart leaped. It felt like he had just taken a ride on a roller coaster. He was ecstatic, though confused as to why she had agreed so quickly this time. He was just relieved that he didn’t have to resort to his backup plan. If he had, with so many people watching, he would have been mortified.
Turning to Bonnie, Yvette said, “You head back first.”
Bonnie nodded, taking their shopping bags and walking away as Yvette got into the car. After closing the door, Lucas climbed into the front passenger seat. He was so focused on Yvette that he didn’t notice Winona and a group of girls standing by the university entrance, watching them.
“Winona, didn’t that man look like your family’s butler? Wasn’t he the one who brought your art supplies the other day?” one of the girls asked.
“Yeah, I remember now. I think it was him,” another chimed in.
“He wasn’t here for you? Why did he leave without seeing you?” one of them asked.
The girls had only caught a glimpse of Lucas closing the car door and hadn’t seen much of what had happened earlier. All they saw was a silhouette, leaving them puzzled about why Lucas had shown up if he wasn’t there for Winona.
Only Winona knew the truth. She recognized Yvette immediately and was sure of it. She clenched her fist tightly, nails digging into her palm, but maintained her calm demeanor. “He was here to bring me something. I asked him to check on Yvie and see if she needed any help,” she explained with a smile.
When the girls heard this, they couldn’t stop showering Winona with compliments.
“Winona, you’re so kind. Don’t listen to those people on the forum. They’re just jealous of you because they’re captivated by Yvette,” one girl said.
“Exactly. Don’t let it get to you. No matter how impressive Yvette is, people will eventually come around and support you,” another added.
Winona remained silent. Finding an excuse to leave the group, she snuck off to a quiet corner of the sports field, biting her lip as she dialed Nellie’s number.
Meanwhile, Nellie was playing cards with a man named Blake. Blake was a local gangster in Seacrity, and Nellie had been in a discreet relationship with him for some time. It wasn’t really an affair, but rather a mutually beneficial arrangement. Over the years, Nellie had paid Blake for his help with various shady dealings. While Nellie had little emotional attachment to Blake, he had developed real feelings for her and would do anything she asked, including investigating Yvette.
Unfortunately, Blake’s information about Yvette was wildly inaccurate. There was a huge gap between the Yvette in the reports and the one in reality. This discrepancy only fueled Nellie’s obsession with finding out more. She had been seeing Blake often, and their “planning” sessions usually ended in bed.
Nellie slipped into a sexy nightgown, grabbed her phone from her bag, and answered the call. On the bed, Blake reached out for her, but she signaled him to wait a moment. “Hello? Winona, why are you calling me at this hour?” she asked, trying to mask her sultry voice, though Winona immediately picked up on the strange tone.
