Chapter_177
Yvette lightly tapped her phone to answer the call. The voice on the other end was clear, authoritative, and to the point.
“This is Nathan. I’m outside the villa. Can you let me in to see her? There’s a misunderstanding with Sienna, and I want to clarify things face-to-face.”
Yvette raised an eyebrow, a faint smirk playing at the corner of her lips. She glanced at her watch, her tone unbothered. “I don’t have time.”
Outside the villa, Nathan stood still, staring at the imposing structure. His eyes narrowed, his expression conflicted. The owner of this villa—whoever they were—had managed to remain entirely elusive. The Goodman family couldn’t even trace a lead in Mysonna. It was a reminder that the power behind this villa was something beyond his reach.
Nathan paused, about to speak again, but the call ended abruptly. His phone screen went dark, leaving him with a growing sense of unease. Yvette, he thought bitterly, always as wild as ever, never bothering to hold back.
Inside the villa, Yvette lounged on the couch, legs casually crossed, her phone in hand. She looked up at Sienna, her expression neutral.
“Nathan called. He’s outside and wants to see you.”
Sienna hesitated, her face betraying a mix of emotions. She knew avoiding Nathan wasn’t a permanent solution. It was inevitable—she had to face him sooner or later. It was better to confront the situation head-on.
She turned to Yvette, determination in her eyes. “Yve, sooner or later, I’ll have to face Nathan. It’s perfect that he’s here now. I’ll clear things up with him. I can’t keep hiding under your wings forever. Let him in.”
Yvette met her gaze, her eyes calm and steady. “Have you made up your mind?”
Sienna nodded seriously. “I’m sure about this, Yve. Let him come in.”
Yvette leaned back, unfazed. “Okay.”
With a simple flick of her finger, Yvette dialed Nathan’s number.
Outside the villa, Nathan sat in his car, a war of emotions stirring within him. Barge in? I’d never dare. With Yvette’s personality, I wouldn’t make it out alive. But to leave now… He clenched his fists on the steering wheel. What if Yvette is hiding Sienna? What if I never find her?
Just as his thoughts swirled, his phone rang again. Nathan’s heart leapt. He quickly answered, “Hello—”
Before he could get another word in, Yvette’s voice cut through the line, smooth and indifferent.
“Come in.”
With that, she ended the call, leaving Nathan staring at his phone, stunned.
Inside the villa, Frankie, who had been idly observing the interaction between Yvette and Sienna, froze when he heard Nathan’s name. He turned his head stiffly, his expression tense.
“Nathan? That name sounds familiar. Could it be the Nathan from the Goodman family?”
Sienna, not picking up on Frankie’s strained tone, simply nodded. “Yeah, it’s him. Why? Do you know him?”
Frankie’s smile was forced, his teeth grinding in frustration. “I don’t know him. How could I possibly know a man who’s so selfish, insidious, and adept at scheming?” His voice carried a bitter edge as he spoke.
Sienna, slightly unsettled by his reaction, instinctively tightened her grip on her clothes. A chill ran down her spine. He really doesn’t like Nathan, she thought, but Frankie’s attempt at masking his hatred didn’t go unnoticed.
Yvette, with a nonchalant expression, noticed the subtle tension between them. Her sharp eyes flickered over to Frankie, who now looked as though he were trying to suppress a deep loathing.
The door opened with a soft creak, and Nathan stepped into the villa. His eyes scanned the room with practiced calculation. He immediately spotted Yvette, sprawled lazily on the couch with her phone in hand. Beside her sat Sienna, who was quietly peeling an apple for Yvette, her focus entirely on the task.
Nathan’s brow furrowed. What the hell? He hadn’t expected this. Sienna had never been so attentive with him. A pang of jealousy hit him hard, but he quickly masked it.
He walked into the living room, sitting down without a word, the tension thick in the air. After a moment of silence, he cleared his throat and turned toward Yvette.
“Yvette, it’s been a while,” Nathan said, forcing a smile.
Yvette didn’t even look up from her phone. Her expression remained cold, distant, as if he were a mere inconvenience. She didn’t respond, her attention entirely on the game in front of her.
Nathan’s smile faltered. He glanced at Frankie, who was sitting across the room, giving him a look that could have been mistaken for outright disdain.
Frankie’s eyes twinkled with mischief. Yvette is amazing, he thought. Who cares about the Goodman family? To her, they mean nothing at all.
Sienna, seeing the way Nathan was being ignored, felt a knot tighten in her stomach. She knew Nathan’s temper all too well, and she could already feel the heat of his anger building. Fearing it would escalate, she quickly slid closer to Yvette, blocking Nathan’s view of her.
Her eyes were guarded, a subtle shift in her posture that made it clear she was treating Nathan as if he were an adversary.
Nathan, seeing Sienna’s stiff posture, offered a strained smile. She’s overthinking, he thought. Even the head of the Goodman family wouldn’t dare put on airs in front of Yvette, let alone me.
Finally, Nathan spoke, his voice low and filled with a mix of frustration and sincerity.
“Sienna, it’s not what it seems. My fiancée was chosen by my grandfather. I don’t agree with it. I’ll break off the engagement and marry you instead. I understand your concerns, and I promise I won’t get involved in the Goodman family’s darker dealings. My grandfather already divided our responsibilities. Braydon handles the covert operations, and I handle the legitimate business. What you saw before… it was an accident. It won’t happen again, I swear. I’d never put you in danger. And don’t you think of the baby? Do you want him to grow up without a father?”
Sienna’s breath caught at the mention of the baby. She froze for a moment, her mind racing.
She stole a glance at Yvette, who was still engrossed in her game, unfazed by Nathan’s words. Sienna felt a pang of guilt for a fleeting second, but she quickly pushed it aside.
Yvette’s fingers hesitated for a moment, but she remained focused on her screen, as though nothing had changed.
Nathan’s words cut through the silence, but Frankie’s low mutter under his breath was sharp. “What a shameless bastard. Using the baby to manipulate her into staying… That’s low, even for him.”
Sienna’s expression wavered for a moment. She glanced at Nathan, her doubts creeping in. Finally, she spoke, her voice steady but soft.
“Nathan, I asked you in because I need to make things clear. I’m serious about breaking up with you. I hope we can part on good terms. As for the baby, I’ll have him. After all, your genes aren’t bad. But don’t worry, the child and I won’t be a part of your life. You can marry whoever you want. I won’t stand in your way. But please, I don’t want you anywhere near me or the baby. Let’s go our separate ways, and live our lives. And if you don’t mind, I might even send you a wedding invitation one day… when I get married.”
Her voice softened at the end, and Nathan’s face twisted with a mix of anger and disbelief.
His eyes flared with fury. Marry someone else? His hands clenched into fists, his anger rising like a storm. “What kind of nonsense is this? You think you can just marry someone else and raise my child? In Mysonna, who would dare take my woman?”
His gaze shifted briefly to Yvette, his unease visible. Sienna, unfazed by his words, shook her head.
“I’ve made up my mind, Nathan. You can’t stop me. If you insist on forcing me, I’ll stay single. It’s no big deal. Do you know Vibe has a third of its shares under my name? I’m rich and good-looking. Raising a kid on my own is no problem. If I wanted to, I could have a line of suitors stretching from Mysonna to Clusia. So no, you can’t stop me.”
Frankie jumped up from the couch, a wide grin spreading across his face. This was getting interesting.
