Chapter_152
As soon as Zachary began to speak, the room fell into a tense silence. His gaze swept over the reporters, his expression serious and commanding.
“First, let’s address the rumors about Zeke and Winona,” he said, his voice steady but piercing. “I have a report from a reputable institution to confirm that, yes, they are not my biological children. As for who their real father is—well, you’ll have to ask Nellie herself.”
A murmur rippled through the crowd as the reporters took in this revelation. Zachary didn’t pause. “There have also been rumors that I irresponsibly abandoned my wife and children. What you don’t know is that not only are the two children not mine, but Nellie also repeatedly cheated on me over the years. I have photos and detailed records to prove everything I’ve said. If anyone’s interested, I’ll have all of this emailed to you shortly.”
The reporters gasped, their pens racing to write down every word. Zachary had just dropped a bombshell—proof of his wife’s infidelity, her deception, and his suffering.
The revelation left them stunned, but Zachary wasn’t finished. His eyes glinted with the sharpness of a man who had taken control of his narrative.
“I’m sure you’re all aware of the recent blows the Chambers Group has suffered from both the Smith and Carter families. My former father-in-law, Dennis, bribed our suppliers and lured away our partners by offering three times the market price. The Chambers Group was left in despair,” he continued, his voice growing heavier with the weight of his words.
The reporters, already familiar with the chaos in Seacrity’s business world, nodded. They had witnessed the intense pressure mounting on the Chambers Group as they fought for survival. But what they didn’t know was the depth of the Smith family’s involvement.
Zachary sighed, his expression one of frustration. “In twenty years of marriage, I’ve been cheated on, lied to, and even raised someone else’s children. But as the saying goes, where there’s a will, there’s a way.”
He paused, letting the words hang in the air for a moment, before continuing, “Just yesterday, Mr. Yates, the General Manager of Sunrise Group—the country’s largest investment firm—reached out to me. He’s agreed to help us in this critical time. In fact, we’ve just finalized a partnership, and Sunrise Group will be investing $5 billion into the Chambers Group. Through this partnership, we will jointly develop a new immersive online game with FastPulse Technologies, the largest gaming company in the world.”
The room went silent. The reporters couldn’t believe what they were hearing. Sunrise Group? FastPulse Technologies? Those were two of the most influential names in the business world—why would they ally themselves with a company on the brink of bankruptcy?
Zachary gave a small, knowing smile. “I know what you’re thinking. But I assure you, I’m not out of my mind. The contract has been signed. If you’d like to see proof, I’ll show you.”
He glanced at Lucas, who stood by with a briefcase in hand. The reporters exchanged curious looks. What was in the briefcase? Everyone suspected it might hold the evidence Zachary promised.
Lucas stepped forward and handed the briefcase to Zachary, who opened it with an air of confidence. He pulled out a thick stack of papers, and the cameras zoomed in as he flipped to the last page. The words “CONTRACT” were stamped in bold letters, and Howard Yates’ signature was clearly visible, accompanied by the official Sunrise Group seal.
The reporters couldn’t argue with the evidence before them. Zachary had secured a deal that would keep the Chambers Group afloat, and with the support of Sunrise Group, they could now recover from their recent losses.
Zachary straightened in his chair, his expression hardening. “To conclude this press conference, I’d like to issue a warning. No one should ruin the healthy competition in the market out of personal greed. The Chambers family does not want trouble, but we are not afraid of it. If anyone dares to challenge us again, bring it on. I’ll be right here, waiting for you, sewer rats.”
There was a collective gasp. Zachary’s words hung in the air, heavy with intent. The “sewer rats” were unmistakably a reference to the Smith family—and with this declaration, the lines had been drawn. The Chambers and Smith families had officially gone to war.
Meanwhile, at the Smith residence, Dennis was gripping his cane with an intensity that could have cracked the hardwood floor. His face was stormy, his eyes narrowed in fury as he processed the news. Nellie, Zeke, and Winona sat in silence, too stunned to speak.
Dennis finally broke the silence, his voice like gravel. “How did Zachary connect with Sunrise Group?” His words were low but filled with venom.
Winona and Zeke exchanged nervous glances, both of them visibly trembling. Nellie stuttered, her voice shaky. “Dennis, I—I really don’t know how Zachary knew Howard Yates. He never mentioned him before.”
Dennis’ fury erupted. He swept all the coffee cups off the table, sending them crashing to the floor. “You don’t know? How could you not know?” he roared. “Howard Yates is at the top of the business world. One word from him and entire companies can disappear. By helping the Chambers Group, he’s signaling that they’re under his protection. If you want to go against them, you’ll have to deal with Howard first. And you—you—don’t even know that they’re connected?” He shook his head in disbelief. “Absolutely useless!”
The room was thick with tension as Dennis seethed, his anger palpable. The dynamics had shifted, and now the Chambers Group had the backing of one of the most powerful men in the country. The Smith family, once dominant, had just lost their advantage.
