Chapter_8
Whitney felt her frustration building. It was someone else who had made her change, someone else who had put her in this situation.
She attempted to shift her position slightly, but the man suddenly grunted and growled, “Be careful, or your face might touch something.”
Her face flushed a deep red, and she froze, stiffening. The man’s voice was like an electric shock, sending her pulse racing with embarrassment. She could feel her cheeks burning hot.
He began pulling the towel from her back, gently easing her off him.
Whitney scrambled to sit to the side, her hands instinctively covering her eyes as she panted for breath. “Okay, are you decent now?”
The man took a moment to look at her flushed face, a faint, knowing smile tugging at the corner of his lips. His expression, while still cool, softened ever so slightly.
“Stand up slowly,” he advised, his tone unexpectedly considerate, as though he didn’t want her to stumble again.
Whitney hesitated, then slowly dared to open her eyes. She was relieved to see that he was wrapped in the towel once more. But as her gaze roamed over him, she found his features unsettlingly familiar. There was something about him…
“Hey, are you the owner of Imperial Gem Corporation, Mr. Lippert?” she asked, now trying to focus on the matter at hand.
“And who might you be?” he asked in return, towering over her with a nonchalant air, as if he didn’t know her at all.
Whitney felt her temper flare. “I’m the owner of Skye Gem Ltd.! Your sworn enemy,” she said, frustration and anger seeping into her voice.
He raised an eyebrow, his expression indifferent. “Never heard of it,” he replied arrogantly, his gaze unreadable.
Whitney blinked in disbelief. How could he not know her? He had emailed her before, mocking her figure! She wasn’t going to let him brush her off so easily.
“Are you Mr. Lippert or not?” she pressed, seeking confirmation.
He shot her a fleeting glance, his look dark and warning. “Is it safe for you to be standing here dressed like that? Or are you interested in watching me change my pants? If something else happens, I might just have to pin you down.”
Whitney’s mind raced, her heart pounding. She quickly glanced down, noticing that her shirt was about to tear from the tension. This situation was getting out of hand.
Meanwhile, the man, unfazed, began to unravel the towel, his movements deliberate and unhurried.
“Ah, you creep!” Whitney exclaimed, her cheeks flushing a deeper shade of red. She bolted for the door, no longer able to stand the tension.
Outside, the onlookers were left stunned, mouths agape as they watched her flee with unexpected grace and beauty. It was a sight they wouldn’t forget any time soon.
Just then, Ludwik emerged from behind a mask, briefly blinding everyone around him. Nolan quickly pulled the shirt from his eyes, his curiosity piqued.
“Ludwik! Why the sudden need for a disguise?” Nolan asked, his voice tinged with amusement.
Ludwik’s gaze darkened as he looked toward the door. “Who brought her in here?”
Nolan froze at the intensity of Ludwik’s expression, and a shiver ran down his spine. He raised his hand weakly, “I… I brought Whitney in…”
“You let her dress like that?” Ludwik’s voice was heavy with disbelief.
Nolan, unbothered by the sharpness of Ludwik’s tone, grinned mischievously. “It was for you, Ludwik, to spice up the newlywed’s life!”
