Chapter_10
Whitney’s heart raced as she realized just how close she was to the man behind her. His solid frame was pressed against her back, and the tightness of the wardrobe left little room between them. She could feel his breath, warm and uneven, just a whisper away from her skin. The closeness was undeniable, and she couldn’t help but notice the intensity of his presence, even though she couldn’t see his face.
“Sir…” she murmured, her voice barely audible, feeling a rush of heat flood her cheeks. She couldn’t bring herself to look up, not when her body was so acutely aware of his proximity.
His throat moved as he swallowed, and despite the tension in the small space, his voice remained steady, though there was an edge to it. “Don’t move just yet,” he commanded, his tone low and almost rough.
The words sent a shiver down her spine, and she froze, unsure of what to do. His breath was still warm on her neck, a reminder of just how close they were. The air between them seemed thick with something unspoken, an undeniable tension she hadn’t expected to feel.
Whitney dared not move, her mind a blur as she processed the strange mix of attraction, discomfort, and uncertainty coursing through her. Her breath came quicker now, the heat from his body radiating through the narrow space. Was he trying to intimidate her, or was this something else entirely?
She could feel the pulse in her ears, the sound of her heartbeat thundering in her chest. The wardrobe felt smaller with every passing second, and yet, she couldn’t bring herself to push him away. She couldn’t explain it, but something about the way he was standing there, so quietly commanding, made her want to stay still, even though every instinct in her screamed to break free.
“Do you always play these games?” Whitney finally asked, her voice a little shakier than she intended, the words slipping out before she could stop them. She wasn’t sure if she wanted an answer, but it seemed like the only thing she could say.
His grip on her waist didn’t loosen, and his voice, when it came, was even more chilling than before. “Not games, Whitney,” he murmured, his words brushing her ear. “This is business. And you’ve crossed into dangerous territory.”
A slight tension in his voice reminded her that there was more at stake here than just a simple misunderstanding. What kind of man was he? She didn’t know, but she could feel the weight of that question bearing down on her. The man behind her, the one with such a commanding presence, was someone she had yet to fully understand. But one thing was certain—he wasn’t someone who took kindly to being underestimated.
His hand tightened imperceptibly around her waist, and Whitney’s breath hitched. She dared a glance over her shoulder, her eyes meeting the cold, inscrutable mask that hid his expression.
“Don’t make me regret this, Whitney,” he said, his voice barely a whisper, but the warning was clear.
With the pressure of his body so close to hers, and the weight of his words hanging in the air, Whitney wasn’t sure what to think anymore. The mix of emotions—confusion, fear, and an odd sense of attraction—made her feel dizzy, trapped in the moment.
“I—I won’t,” she stammered, her mind racing as she silently prayed for him to release her from this unbearable tension.
