Chapter_20
Tiana’s eyes widened as she caught Whitney’s sharp tone, her face going from starry-eyed admiration to disbelief. “Wait, what? Fake husband? You’ve got a fake husband?” she exclaimed, her voice rising in excitement.
Whitney quickly threw her a warning look. “Keep it down,” she muttered, though there was a hint of annoyance in her voice. “It’s a long story, Tiana.”
But Tiana, clearly thrilled by the drama, leaned in closer. “Seriously, Whitney, you’re not going to leave me hanging here. Who is this mystery man? And why are you calling him your fake husband?”
Whitney groaned, rolling her eyes. “It’s a complicated situation, one I don’t want to explain right now. But trust me, he’s not anyone worth getting worked up over.”
Tiana’s curiosity was practically bubbling over, but before she could push any further, Whitney’s attention snapped back to the man in the Rolls-Royce. She couldn’t help but admire him, despite herself. The cool, controlled air about him—the way he carried himself—was undeniably magnetic.
“Are you sure he’s just your ‘fake husband’? Because that man looks like he’s got ‘real husband’ written all over him,” Tiana teased, waggling her eyebrows.
Whitney shot her an exasperated look. “He’s not my type, Tiana. Definitely not.”
But even as she said the words, she couldn’t deny the stirring in her chest. He was more than just good-looking—there was a strength to him, an aura of authority that was both intimidating and oddly intriguing. The way he had commanded attention with his mere presence, the way his eyes scanned the crowd, made her question her earlier assessment. Could there be more to him than she thought?
Her internal thoughts were interrupted by Tiana, who was still swooning over the man. “Look at him, Whitney. He’s like a walking romance novel character! If he wasn’t your ‘fake husband,’ I might’ve been willing to make him mine.”
Whitney sighed, shaking her head. “Let’s just focus on the exhibition, okay? We’re here for business, not to ogle handsome men.”
But as they stepped toward the entrance, Whitney’s eyes were still drawn to the man, who was now talking with some of the company executives. She couldn’t help but wonder what his connection to Imperial Gem Corporation was—and how he tied into the complex web of her life and her ongoing battle with Monica.
As much as she wanted to ignore him, she couldn’t shake the feeling that their paths would cross again—soon. And next time, it might not be so easy to dismiss him as just another rich guy with a pretty face.
