Chapter_132
Whitney’s smile remained cool, not a trace of discomfort betraying her as she met Castor’s gaze. His attempt to assert control with his jab didn’t faze her in the slightest. She wasn’t going to let him provoke her into a reaction.
“I’m not here to claim what was once Elaine’s spot,” Whitney said, her voice calm and steady. “I’m here for lunch, just like any other employee.” Her words were firm but polite, leaving no room for misinterpretation. She refused to let his mocking tone affect her.
Castor’s expression faltered for just a split second. A flicker of irritation crossed his face as he expected her to flinch, to become defensive or uncomfortable. Instead, she stood her ground, unaffected. His gaze narrowed, but he quickly masked it with a smirk and shrugged it off.
“Suit yourself,” he muttered, dismissing her with a casual wave as he turned his back and walked away, his arrogance intact but his attempt to provoke Whitney failing miserably.
Whitney, undeterred, remained composed. She took a seat at the booth Castor had just vacated, settling in as Harper placed the documents on the table. Without a word, they began their meal. But as she glanced over the papers, her thoughts wandered, reflecting on Castor’s reaction. It was exactly what she had expected, but it also served as confirmation of something she already knew: her presence at United Realty Corporation would not be an easy ride. Castor’s resistance was only the beginning.
The company was still absorbing the change of leadership, and she could sense the subtle traces of Elaine’s influence in the air, especially among the senior ranks. Her new position was prestigious, but it was fragile—still untested by the full weight of corporate politics. Castor was just one of the many players who seemed intent on questioning her authority. But Whitney was no stranger to such resistance. The stakes were high, but she had dealt with tougher situations before, and this was no different. Castor’s sharp tongue and status in the company would not be enough to rattle her.
She could feel the game already unfolding around her, and she knew it would be a challenge. But Whitney was ready. She had the skills, the confidence, and the experience to handle it. Castor, or anyone else for that matter, would not make her feel less than capable.
As lunch wrapped up, Whitney rose from her seat, her mind already shifting gears toward the next challenge. She turned to Harper, her voice taking on a tone of command. “We need to meet with the executives. Prepare a list of all the key figures in the company—who they are, their influence, and any possible weaknesses they might have.”
Harper nodded quickly, eager to assist. “Understood, Ms. Whitney.”
They left the cafeteria together, and Whitney’s thoughts raced. She knew that if she truly wanted to solidify her place in the company, she had to act fast. She needed to take command of the situation, assert her authority without hesitation, and erase any lingering shadows of Elaine’s influence. If she wanted to take control of United Realty Corporation, she had to move quickly and decisively.
As they walked back to the office, Whitney’s gaze swept over the busy floor of the company. She could feel the tension in the air, but it didn’t shake her. Instead, it only fueled her resolve. If Castor thought she was going to back down, he was gravely mistaken.
Whitney wasn’t just going to play the corporate game—she was going to win it. And no one, least of all Castor, was going to stop her.
