Chapter_113
Whitney felt a heavy weight settle in her chest as Tiana spoke. The chaotic events of the past few days seemed to blend together in a blur—monstrous coincidences, dangerous confrontations, and the unsettling sense that someone was always watching, always orchestrating the next move in a game she hadn’t fully understood.
Tiana, oblivious to the storm of thoughts swirling in Whitney’s mind, continued, her voice light and teasing. “You’ve got these two guys jumping to your rescue. I mean, come on, Bryce is this big, important guy, and L is—well, L. Don’t tell me you’re not feeling a little flattered.”
Whitney’s thoughts snapped back to the present. Tiana was right about one thing: there was something strange in the air. She had never been one to dwell too much on romantic drama, but now, with L nearly killed by falling glass, Bryce bleeding from a wound he’d taken to protect her, and the shadow of Elaine’s scheming hanging over her, the dynamics had shifted in ways she couldn’t ignore.
“I don’t know, Tiana,” Whitney replied softly, her voice more distant than she intended. “It’s not just about them risking their lives for me. Something bigger is happening, and I can’t shake the feeling that I’m being used as a pawn in all of this.”
Tiana stopped, studying her friend with a concerned gaze. “Used? By who?”
Whitney bit her lip, her eyes unfocused as she replayed the events that had led her to this point: the strange attacks, the cryptic messages, the criminal with her picture, and the revelation that the person behind it all might be someone closer than she wanted to admit.
“I think it’s Elaine,” Whitney said quietly, the words almost tasting foreign on her tongue. “She’s behind all of it. She’s been trying to destroy me—our lives—ever since I got involved with L. And now… she’s using Monica and maybe even that criminal to get to me.”
Tiana blinked in surprise. “Elaine? But… she’s been so subtle, I didn’t think—”
“I didn’t either,” Whitney cut in, her tone sharp with certainty. “But think about it. She’s always been jealous, always wanted control over everything, including L. She’s had the perfect opportunity to sabotage me, especially now that I’m pregnant. This child—our child—could be the thing that finally drives her mad.”
A chill ran through both women at the weight of Whitney’s words. The idea of Elaine being behind all the recent troubles wasn’t just paranoia—it made sense, horrifying as it was. Elaine had been watching them from the shadows, waiting for the right moment to strike.
“But how would she even know about the pregnancy?” Tiana asked, her brow furrowed. “And the criminal’s story… it doesn’t add up.”
Whitney shook her head, trying to piece it together. “I don’t know yet. But if Elaine had someone watching me, or if she got information from someone inside L’s circle, it would explain how the criminal knew so much about me. He had a photo of me—who else would have given him that?”
“Do you think she’s the one behind the photo?” Tiana asked, her voice a whisper now.
Whitney’s eyes met hers, and she nodded slowly. “Yes. She’s been pulling the strings all along. And now, I think she’s trying to make L suffer—by using me, by using our baby. She’ll stop at nothing to ruin our lives.”
Tiana was quiet for a moment, her mind racing as she considered the implications of Whitney’s words. She had never seen her friend so serious, so determined. She placed a hand on Whitney’s shoulder. “What do we do now?”
Whitney sighed, her gaze distant as she thought through her options. “We need to confront Elaine. I don’t know how, but we can’t let her keep doing this to us. And I need to know how much L knows about all of this. We can’t let her use him to get to me anymore.”
Tiana nodded, her expression resolute. “Alright. Let’s start digging. We’ll figure this out together.”
As they spoke, Whitney couldn’t shake the feeling that their next steps would change everything. The dangerous game had escalated, and now, it was no longer just about her—it was about protecting everything she held dear, including the child she was carrying. She had no intention of letting Elaine—or anyone—take that away from her.
And she would fight until the very end.
