Chapter_121
Ludwik’s heart pounded in his chest as he processed Tiana’s words. Kidnapped? His mind was reeling, a mix of disbelief and rage flooding him.
“Are you sure?” His voice was cold, sharp with urgency.
“Positive, Mr. L,” Tiana replied, her tone tense. “She was taken during the drive to Banyan City. We’ve traced her phone’s location, but we lost signal. I’ll have our people on it immediately.”
Ludwik’s fist slammed onto the table, making everyone in the room jump. He didn’t care about the people around him—his focus was entirely on Whitney. Who would dare?
“Don’t waste time. Find her,” he ordered, his voice a low growl, filled with a chilling determination.
As Tiana scrambled to mobilize the search, Ludwik’s mind raced. The timing felt off, like pieces of a much larger puzzle were starting to fall into place. He had always been cautious with Whitney, but something about this felt… different. If someone had targeted her, they were most certainly after more than just her. They were going after him.
A sudden thought struck him—Elaine.
Ludwik’s mind flashed back to the oddities of recent weeks—the increasing tension between him and Elaine, the way she’d been acting with both him and Whitney. There had been moments when he caught her eyeing Whitney with something that felt like more than mere suspicion. He didn’t want to believe it, but all signs pointed to her involvement.
“Damn it,” he muttered to himself.
With swift, controlled steps, Ludwik stormed out of the meeting, leaving the room full of people staring in confusion. He didn’t care about the meeting anymore; this was about Whitney.
At the same time, Whitney sat in the back of an unmarked van, her hands tied tightly behind her back. Her heart raced, her body tense with the fight for control. Her mind, however, was working faster than ever. This was a setup.
She had expected this turn of events; however, the reality was far more disorienting than she anticipated. They had taken her with calculated precision, but they didn’t know who they were dealing with.
Whitney’s eyes flicked around the dimly lit van as she tried to assess her surroundings. She could hear muffled voices outside, but it was too hard to make out anything clearly. She focused on her breathing, trying to calm herself.
Then, a familiar voice broke through the noise.
“Well, well, well. Look who’s finally awake.”
Whitney’s pulse quickened, but she forced herself to stay composed. She lifted her chin, her gaze sharp despite her restraints.
“Elaine,” she said coldly, “You’re behind this, aren’t you? How predictable.”
Elaine, standing just outside the van, smirked. “I had to make sure things were in motion. You were getting too close, Whitney.”
Whitney could hear the satisfaction in Elaine’s voice. It was clear that she believed she had the upper hand now. But Whitney was far from defeated.
“You’re not getting away with this,” Whitney said, her voice calm but lethal. “I’ll make sure Ludwik knows the truth. I have all the leverage I need.”
Elaine’s eyes narrowed as she stepped closer to the van. “You think you’re the only one with secrets? Ludwik may have a lot to learn about you too. But it’s too late for games now. You’re going to pay for interfering with my plans.”
Whitney laughed softly, a bitter sound. “I think it’s you who needs to worry, Elaine. You’re playing a dangerous game. And I don’t intend to lose.”
Elaine’s smile widened at the challenge, but it was clear that both women knew this was no longer just a simple battle—it was a war, and both were determined to emerge victorious.
Meanwhile, Ludwik was already heading toward the location where Whitney’s phone had last pinged. His mind was consumed with the fear that something terrible could happen to her. Every second was precious. As he drove, he couldn’t shake the feeling that everything was spiraling out of control—and that he was losing the woman he’d come to care about in the process.
His phone buzzed, interrupting his thoughts. It was a message from Tiana.
[Mr. L, we’ve located the van. It’s in a warehouse on the outskirts of Banyan City.]
His grip tightened on the wheel as he floored the accelerator. They won’t get away with this, he thought grimly.
Back at the warehouse, Whitney’s captors were unaware of the imminent danger heading their way. Elaine stood just outside the van, watching with satisfaction as the plan continued to unfold. But in the back of her mind, a small nagging feeling remained—what if this didn’t go as smoothly as she hoped?
Her thoughts were interrupted by a loud crash in the distance. She turned just as Ludwik’s car screeched to a halt in front of the warehouse.
“Get ready,” she hissed to the men around her, her eyes flashing with a dangerous gleam. This was just the beginning.
