Chapter_267
“Call me anytime if you need anything,” Bryce said, his tone firm.
After ending the call, Whitney carefully secured a mask on her son’s face, then lifted him into the private elevator. The floors passed quickly, each one brimming with activity. Even the offices of top executives were already buzzing with the day’s work.
Reaching the top floor, Whitney’s smile hardened as she spotted Elaine entering the boardroom. She set her son down, her expression shifting as she fished her car keys from her pocket. “Honey, you’re a smart cookie. Can you get to the car and hide?”
Danny nodded, sensing the urgency in her voice.
“Mommy will be back in ten minutes. Go, but stay safe,” she instructed, her voice sharp with tension.
The little guy turned, darting back toward the elevator.
Whitney straightened, took a deep breath, and with the click of her heels, walked swiftly to the shareholders’ office. Inside, she found the usual flattery and sycophantic praise directed at Elaine.
“Elaine, with your leadership, Skye Gem Ltd. is sure to thrive again,” one of the shareholders gushed.
“I’ve heard so much about your remarkable skills. It’s no surprise the boss has such faith in you,” another chimed in.
Whitney’s voice cut through the air like a knife. “Elaine, a moment ago, I was the one who paid to redeem Skye Gem Ltd. from auction, and now you’re here acting like it’s yours?”
Elaine’s feigned smile faltered. “Ms. Valentine, to what do we owe the pleasure of your visit?”
Whitney’s eyes flickered around the room, scanning the shareholders. “My visit? I’m here to claim what’s rightfully mine.”
Jaxon, ever the sycophant, laughed mockingly. “Ms. Valentine, the boss adores Elaine. This company’s fate is already sealed.”
The shareholders murmured in agreement, eager to follow the money trail. Skye Gem Ltd. had been dormant for years, but Elaine’s association with Mr. Lippert gave them hope for a quick rebound.
Whitney’s patience wore thin. “So, now you all worship the man who nearly destroyed this company? How quickly you’ve forgotten.”
The room simmered with tension. Director Liu stepped forward, his voice rising in irritation. “You’ve already been paid out, Whitney. What more do you want?”
Elaine’s smugness crept back, her voice sweet but full of venom. “You were once CEO, but not anymore. Ludwik adores me. He’s legally transferred everything to me. Skye Gem Ltd. is mine.”
Whitney leaned back in her chair, cool and composed. “Elaine, you’re deluded if you think this is over. The auction house refunded my payment. I’ve got the certified agreement right here.”
The room went quiet. Elaine’s confident smirk faltered as Jaxon scrambled to cover. “It’s already been processed with Elaine. The company’s sale is final.”
Whitney’s gaze locked with Elaine’s. “You’re mistaken. The money hasn’t hit my account, and the paperwork is far from complete. If you want this company, you’ll have to wait a little longer.”
Elaine’s eyes flashed with anger, but she held her ground. “We’ll see about that.”
Whitney remained unruffled. “You may be enjoying yourself now, but give it a few days. Skye Gem Ltd. is still under my command.”
Elaine, trying to maintain her composure, hissed, “Enjoy your moment. In two days, it will all be mine.”
Whitney smiled, cold and unbothered. “As long as I’m having fun, that’s all that matters.”
Elaine clenched her fists, her frustration palpable. With a sharp glance at Jaxon, she stormed out, followed by the sycophantic shareholders who quickly abandoned Whitney’s side.
The room emptied, leaving only the remaining directors glaring at Whitney.
“Look at the mess you’ve caused,” one muttered.
“If Elaine decides to retaliate, you’ll answer to us,” another warned.
Whitney’s eyes narrowed, her resolve unwavering. Before she could respond, Nyx burst into the room, his voice full of urgency. “Ms. Valentine, where have you been these past three years? The rumors said you were dead!”
Whitney gave her former assistant a serene smile. “Well, as you can see, I’m very much alive.”
