Chapter_877
Whitney suddenly snapped to attention, slapping her forehead in disbelief. How could she have been so dense? The doctor had mentioned something about transferring to the obstetrics and gynecology department.
Obstetrics. Gynecology.
A thought, as startling as a clap of thunder, raced through Whitney’s mind, but she immediately tried to dismiss it.
How could Tiana possibly…
But the more she tried to deny it, the seeds of doubt, like a rampant vine, entwined her thoughts unrelentingly.
Biting her lip, Whitney couldn’t help but reach out, gently pulling Tiana’s wrist from under the blanket, revealing skin as pale and luminous as moonlight, with veins faintly visible.
Trained in traditional medicine, she focused on the pulse beneath her fingers, pressing gently to feel it.
Two minutes later, Whitney’s calm expression turned ashen. Her eyelashes fluttered in disbelief.
A pulse of joy…
Whitney felt her breath catch. Could she have mistaken the pulse?
But it was unmistakable.
It indicated that Tiana might have been pregnant for more than just a month…
Whitney found it hard to swallow, looking at Tiana’s peaceful face before stepping back in shock.
Bang-
Just then, a nurse peeked in, saying, “The test results for patient in bed 13 are ready. Could you fetch them and call the doctor in?” Whitney glanced at Tiana.
Taking a deep breath and curling the fingers that had just felt the pulse, she grabbed her bag and walked out, “Could you please check on my friend for me?”
She went to get the results.
Her eyes immediately searched for the HCG test.
As expected, the test for HCG was right there on the form. Whitney’s heart sank as she saw the results-levels hundreds of times above the normal range. Having gone through it herself three years ago when she found out about her pregnancy with Ludwik, she knew exactly what it meant.
The results suggested Tiana was far more than just a couple of weeks along…
Her initial feeling was no illusion; the pulse of joy was clear, and she hadn’t mistaken it!
But… heavens, where did things go wrong?
How could Tiana be pregnant, especially without her knowledge?
This was so sudden! Completely baffling, considering Tiana didn’t even have a boyfriend.
Since her dramatic return after being “killed” by Bryce, she had been nearly inseparable from Whitney. How could Whitney have known nothing of her private life?
And the father of the child… who could it be?
Whitney found herself overwhelmed by these sharp, intrusive thoughts.
Her mood was a mess, thoughts scattered.
She barely remembered how she made it back to the room. As soon as she entered, she saw Tiana awake.
Seeing her, Tiana rubbed her eyes, still oblivious, “Gosh, how did I end up in the hospital? Whitney, it’s not something serious, is it?”
Such carelessness!
Whitney stared at her, her gaze piercing.
So sharp that Tiana felt something was off, “What’s wrong? I’ve got cancer?”
“Shut up,” Whitney said, her face a mask of steel.
“What is it?” Tiana sat up, propping herself with her slender arms.
Whitney approached the bed, unable to hold back any longer. She threw the test results down like a bucket of cold water, not mincing her words, “See for yourself.
Tiana-
Did you know you’re pregnant?”
“What…” Tiana felt as if struck by lightning.
She looked at the test results, finding them absurd, and shook her head with a laugh, “Whitney, are you messing with me?”noveldrama
“What’s the point in messing with you!” Whitney pointed at the form, her eyes sharp as daggers, “Do you not know what you’ve done? Tiana, I’m worried about you… I thought it was a mistake, so I double-checked, triple-checked; it’s your result.
Don’t be so quick to refute me. I impulsively took your pulse earlier.
This pregnancy seems far along…”
Whitney delivered the verdict as if sentencing Tiana to death.
Tiana’s face turned deathly pale, her eyes widened in shock, then narrowed, clouded over with a veil of grey.
Her hands clutched the paper, trembling uncontrollably.
“Whose child is it? When did this happen? Who were you with?” Whitney leaned in, interrogating.
She was too anxious.
Tiana’s mind raced to the only possible answer: those three days on Saltland Island!
Parker’s handsome, devilish face, his imposing figure, his libertine ways dominated her every thought.
Who else could it be?
Heavens, how had she gotten herself into this?
Parker, that damned man, why had he left her with a life to bear?
She’d been confined on the island by Phineas, those three crazy days, and not once did she think to take emergency contraception. Partly because she had no experience, partly because she wasn’t free, but most importantly, because she couldn’t abort. She had almost bled out giving birth to Cherry.
Afterwards, left weak and empty, the doctor had told her she would never be able to conceive again.
That had been a source of deep insecurity for her, making her feel unworthy of marriage.
She had been confident, thinking those three days would remain a secret.
But fate wouldn’t let her off so easily.
How could this happen?
She had already borne Barclay’s daughter, and now, unexpectedly, Parker’s child.
She truly was… a mess.
“Tiana… do you remember?” Whitney, seeing her in such despair, felt a pang of heartache, gripping her shoulders, pleading, “Don’t be silent! Tell me whose child this is. Have you been mistreated recently?
I’m losing my mind, just tell me!
You haven’t been in a relationship; how could you be pregnant? Or did you have an accidental encounter… No, that can’t be, I know you, you’re such a homebody.
Could it be… could it be that child is yours and Parker’s…” Whitney had no other guesses.
Parker was the only man who had been close and complicated enough to consider.
“No, it’s not!” Tiana, like a startled cat, immediately pushed Whitney away, denying it.
Her denial came too quickly, too forcefully, making Whitney’s gaze even more focused. “Tiana, I was just using the process of elimination, just guessing…”
“It’s not!”
“Why are you reacting so strongly?” Whitney frowned.
“Because I hate Parker, I despise him! How could I possibly carry his child? Don’t make accusations!” Tiana was panicking, her voice shaking as her thoughts spun out of control.
Whitney looked at her, her curly hair a tangled mess partially obscuring her pale face. Her eyes, red and swollen, seemed to scream of the turmoil within. It looked like she might pass out any second.
It broke Whitney’s heart, but the surge of emotion made her hesitate to press further with her anger.
“Tiana… you’re sure you’re pregnant, then who’s the father?”
All Whitney could do was gently wrap her arms around her, lowering her gaze, her voice softening in resignation.
“I, I don’t know…” How could she admit it? Tiana was in turmoil, clutching the bedsheets, shaking her head in denial. “I can’t believe I’m pregnant. I was told I couldn’t have children.”
The scene painted a picture of vulnerability and confusion, as Tiana grappled with a reality she never expected to face.
